Gaslow fitting DIY.

It is extremely important to turn off your AES fridge when filling with LPG, a lady on facts was badly burned last year when it caught fire, and she has only this month got her van back after the damage has been repaired, some will know who I mean of course.

Of course, an AES will be on 12v when you pull into a garage to fill, but if there is a queue it might allow enough time for it to switch to LPG and fire up, not sure if this is what happened but turning the fridge off will be the safest option.

I always turn bottles off when travelling ...
Thoughts of gas line rupturing during an accident aren't pleasant

And before they do the work, there is time involved in determining/confirming an appropriate place and then after the work done, doing the proper checks to confirm all is secure and right.

When people do the work themselves, the clock always seems to start just when the first hole is drilled, ignoring the time spent before hand scoping out the installation, with locations, placements, etc. then the clock stops as soon as the hose is connected, ignoring the final safety checks (mainly as they don't have the right safety equipment to do the checks ;) ).
And voilá, they did the work faster then the professionals and the quote was a ripoff :D

FWIW, I fitted my Gaslow setup myself, and it was pretty simple to do when approached in a logical way.
I also fitted my gaslo system myself easy enough if you are a good DIY er if you can change a normal gas bottle safely you should be able to fit refillable too. I kepy my system simple one bottle connected to the van supply and the other one full standing by. Both bottles fill sultaneously from the fill inlet, I have the wheel lock hoses to the bottle in use, easy to remove this if the bottle empties and just screw the hose to th e stand by bottle and off you go I did not want automatic change over valves so I kept it simple, I have 2 X 11kg bottles fitted.

I'd not use the door as it does need to be opened every time you go for fuel, (some say to turn off before filling with LPG too) and at each end of a trip
And at the start of every trip really of course as not really ideal to have the gas on when driving.

, all the movement is on to a pipe that while it is flexible it's not designed to be flexed once fitted, nor the fittings, it may also put a strain on the Locker door catch and hinges. I personally think a wall (preferably) or skirt fitting looks more professional.
I initially was going to fit in the door, but when thought about it, there was only one pro - easier to install - but plenty of cons, including but not only all the ones above.
Given the installation is a one-off thing, that pro was soon wiped out by all the cons if installed that way, most of which would be on-going.
Filler went into the lower skirt next to the locker and looks fine there (and probably in reality was actually easier then making a hole in the locker anyway!)

It's also a bit more complicated than changing a bottle, like fitting solar while simple is more than fitting a plug despite less wiring.

I have usually fitted two bottles, but really there is no need, for the last one (filmed above) I kept a 6kg Calor and then could use or swap that if stuck for a refill, I've never had them tested per se, but did use a leak spray and a retired ex Corgi friend would check with a manometer whenever I visited him.

I'm looking for a used 6kg refillable if anyone has one, you can get kits from eBay to convert Calor to reliable but I wouldn't go that way.

hi. yes your so right about the time delay when fridge's with auto function cuts in after 10 min's i think it is but i always make sure the gas bottle's are turn off when filling as the pressure coming in could damage the regulator or something else . cheyenne

I've heard of others doing that, and I would advise it but many don't of course, but some do lots of things they shouldn't.

I purchased 2 of these fittings from Gaslo when I bought my kit from them, these fittings convert the out let from the bottles to Female threads this way I can fit a CALOR PROPANE regulator to the stand by bottle to run a BARBI or any other gas appliance that I want to thus running from the refillable bottle without the need to fit a barbi point, works for me

I fitted my filler between the bottles in the locker as I didn't particularly want to chop holes in the body skirts OR have to route gas hoses through the van interior to get to a body side .

Never had an issue filling up

I wish all lockers were that big.

Ohhh and I added Mopeka bottle level sensors too ...

Not cheapest BUT it's pretty damn accurate and has useful alarms user settable for levels,
This making it easy to turn empty bottle off and full one on before you run out of gas for the morning brew etc .

I no longer belong to that group, but met up with that lady and her late husband in Poland. She turned around and drove through the mountains to join me for a meal at another members home.

She is an absolutely lovely lady, and we still keep in touch, mainly to find out whether I'm still alive and kicking. 🤣

If you talk to her more often than me, please give her my love and tell her that I still think if her.

hi guys . when i swopped over my gaslow to the new m/h like the autotrail the skirting wasn't wide enough for a gaslow filler so it was a gasit filler i went for & an extra hose plus connector because of the length . one thing i will say is use stainless steel hoses on ALL your fitting . cheyenne P.S the last 2 photos are the bottom inlet so i had to get 2 hoses see the joint

Why do folks worry about level gauges for their bottles when they have refillables, no need to let any bottle empty, just top your bottles up when you see it on sale,?

I do fill when we see it away on longer trips ...
The rest of the time I fill at my local place (cheapest we will usually see)
And refill when one bottle is empty ...
I like to know when bottles are getting empty so I always have enough gas for making a brew in the morning ...
And so we didn't empty a bottle when using the gas fire overnight in winter ...
Not such an issue now I've removed the,gas fire and replaced with an eberspacher .

hi . when touring Europe gas is not always available like going into places like this miles & miles from any GPL station or getting stuck for a week in snow . cheyenne

I agree that works for me but I am low gas user. In winter some of the new heating systems can use an 11kg bottle inside a weekend. If you use a lot of gas there may be advantages to knowing you are low but you still need to be close to somewhere to refill so I don’t know.

If it gives peace of mind to the user I guess that’s worth it though
