Grasse & The Napoleon Route from south to north direction.

We followed The Penninsula Wars route, using the Sharpe series of books.
Took us 5 years and a gearbox, working our way from Santiago de Compostella Via Cuidad Rodrigo, Almieda, Talevira, Badajos and Torres Vedras lines.
Fascinating, the detail and being able to see what and where it actually happened.

Thanks Paul. Since my initial post, I now have a door I cannot lock from outside, we may have to head to Bea’s house near Poitiers, if I cannot source a replacement lock locally. Being the weekend does not help 😭

Good luck.. it's all part of the Motorhomers adventure.

Found a nice quiet spot for tonight, slightly closer to motorhome business who can hopefully fix our lock, or add another dead lock below current lock.

I’ll be under the waterfalls tonight with my soap and sponge 😂

I am currently reading the Sharpe series of books (I am up to Sharpe's Company at the moment...Badajoz) and your trip would make a fascinating book/travel guide in itself I reckon. (y)

We didn't do it all in one go..
But incorporated in our yearly journeys to and from UK, leaving Portugal in early May and leaving UK, mid September

We could take a month, while the weather was pleasant.
We had some brilliant adventures, meeting some fantastic people

There are re- enactment clubs, who take it very seriously. Details of when and where are on line.
Being British, we were always treated as V.I.P.s

It all started when we needed to stop for a night at the Aire at Almieda.. and were welcomed by musket and cannon fire.
The tourist Information marked our card, so we were always in the right place at the right time.

Pity the driver was a lousy parker.
Nice passion wagon, though.

We did the Gorges of Verdon today, with more still to do tomorrow, and also the Route Des Cretes, translation to English “Route on the Edge Of The Canyon”. Absolutely stunning scenery, Cretes road is not for the faint hearted, with drops of over 800 metres, and no barriers, 180+ switchback bends, and at one point, an 11% steep drop of the route, tunnels, the route has many challenges. The rugged harsh scenery made it all worth while.

Now parked up on a small free aire at the village of Trigance, looks as it was once a fortified village with the fortress at the top overlooking the valleys below, shall be investigated tomorrow, time to rest.

Left Trigance this morning to complete the other side of the Gorge, once again a challenging road, but the road surface is great condition on D roads, unlike Italy’s road network. There are many viewing points where you can pull in, space willing.
One less place to tour on the bucket list.

Missed two aircraft flying in, either scooping up water or a practice manoeuvre for pending fire threats? Not great pics, this is them flying out.

Heat right now is punishing!!!

A nice fab/weld job balcony on the radios end gable of this old village house, a really neat way to increase the owners outdoor living space, with the tree offering much needed shade from todays punishing heat.
