Has anyone bought new specs online?

I ask as Specsavers don't seem to be able to get my prescription right, I don't know if it the actual test that is wrong or the manufacture.

So I went into Vision Express yesterday and got a price for some news glasses, Re-glaze my existing frames, Bi-Focal with tint and scratch proofing £210

So I looked online and the prices are massively cheaper, I do some old one so I will still be able to see, but wondered if anyone on her had done it and with whom, and what they thought of them.

Yes, Caz has done a few times with bifocals. Not as good if you use varifocals from what I have read but haven’t tried them. Set up on varifocals is more critical is the reasons I have seen but would like to know if folks do get them without problems.

Still rely on the prescription you give them being right though Kev

For single vision or bifocals Kev get online, as you have seen massive savings.

The online route is fine but like everything in life you get what you pay for. No amount of coatings or filters will make a cheap lens as good as the Zeiss's or Essilors etc. My first question would always be who made the lens.

Neil I've worn varifocals for year now and they are way better that bifocals I ever use varifocal contact lenses now and again.

I have always had varifocals Geoff, when they did me a trial for contact lenses though they just gave me one lens for my left eye. Was weird for a few seconds then brain sorted it out. I didn’t like putting then in and out though so didn’t last long.

Not always the case though. First pair of varifocals I ever bought were £570 from a local optician. At those prices it would have been cheaper to buy a new pair every six months and throw them away. In fact my first pair was around 1998 so maybe could have bought online every couple of months lol

I've gone with a couple of online suppliers. My latest three pairs (reading, distance and sunglasses) came from Goggles4U. Since I needed these following my second cataract removal, I was able to check the lens quality against the previous pair of distance and reading glasses (from Vision Express) and they seem as good -- but at a massive saving. However, the cases Goggles4U supply aren't really that good and so I'm using the Specsaver and Vision Express cases that came with previous specs...

I only need one pair, and it has to have a double bridge or I break them somehow (even though I am careful person), then the bi-focal, then the reactolite thingy, also scratch resistant coating, by the time I've done I may have saved £30-40 I don't think it's worth the hassle if they're not right when they come back, worse if they get lost in the post as I have lost the frames too.

Buy online all the time. I like to have reading glasses in every room, pocket, and handbag.

Not varifocals though, measurements are critical. I did try once and wearing them felt like someone had pulled my eyeballs out and tied them in a knot.

Are you aware you can get frames you can twist, bend, stand on etc and they just go back to shape Kev? Of course, the cost of these may make them more expensive but maybe worth a look.

Or, you could keep your specs on your head, shouldn’t get much damage there lol

I stopped with Reactolite years ago. I was still working and smoking at the time (so before 2005), used to go out for a smoke every hour and when walking back in through stores door I couldn’t see anything for a second or two. Going out they changed instantly but were slower going clear.
