Good Morning people, was just wondering if there are many out there waiting for a Replacement. I been waiting since Feb this Yr for a right Hip Replacement , since diagnosis been told my left knee has got to be done as well .I am really struggling at the mo & Consultant Sec keeps telling me "were not where we hoped to be at the moment ". Try to keep nipping off for the odd break in the Van before the Phone call if it ever happens 😳 😕.PS I'm 65 at the mo.

2/ have you sort treatment elsewhere
3/ HAS IT GOT BETTER IT SELF

Ask if there is less of a waiting list elsewhere could swap to?

Totally agree, the world we knew in our younger days no longer exists. We feel for our sons, who are in their twenties and thirties but they don't seem particularly concerned.

NHS England Waiting List grew last week [to 7.95 million, IIRC] and, again, IIRC, the increase over 2023 has been around the 900,000 mark, which is small cheer for you as an individual ... I had my first hip replaced in 2010 at the age of 56 [too many hockey and football goalie games] and the other hip replaced in 2016. The first hip is actually beginning to creak, making a horrible noise, but it is almost 14 years since the operation and the surgeon said 10-15 years lifespan, so it's probably on borrowed time

I live 5 mins walk (with good Hips) from Royal Stoke Hospital & was told in Feb that I had an appointment with Consultant there in July.... if I could get to Stafford (30 mins drive) I could see a Consultant the nxt day so I went there in March...still waiting 😫.

Hope you don't need another anytime soon then.....having said that met a Guy the other week at Moffat he was from Inverness & had just had a Knee done up there saying the waiting list wasn't that bad in Scotland....might have to come over the Border 😉.

Waiting lists were going up anyway but the strikes this year have put things back even further. Glad I managed to get my heart op done after only a couple of cancellations, should be off again in the next week or so.

I know a lot of folks don’t rate them but I had some kind of injection under x-ray into my left hip joint knocking on must be 7 or 8years back now. Went from having to use a mobility scooter to now taking the dogs out a few times a day. Once I could get moving again I started losing weight which of course eases any hip/knee problems. Specialists said when they found the arthritis in my right hip that if I hadn’t lost the leg I would be in a wheel chair it was that bad (over 15 years ago), never had anything done with that as no problems as I don’t use it as anyone else would.

while waiting for appointments prior to my op I just decided I was off in the van anyway, you always get notice of appointments and you can travel back a long way in a few days if you need to.

Get off and enjoy yourself and I hope you get sorted sooner rather than later 👍

Whilst enjoying our Cornwall holiday last week I got a call from the Hospital to say they have a slot for me on the 10th June for my Knee Replacement so just 4 mths after my Hip Replacement got to do it all again so booked up for Keswick on the 1st June for a week before I go under the knife 🔪 😀.

All the best for you mate 👍

Waiting lists?
Don’t worry too much. There will be a General Election later this year. As last time when the other lot came In, money will go into helping people who need help, rather than into the pockets who can afford private health care.

Cynical ? I waited years for my knee replacement , within months of Tony Blair moving in to #10. It was sorted, and it’s been brilliant.
I’m expecting the same situation with the upgrade Pacemaker.

My husband went to the dr in October and was told he needed a new hip. Not even seen a consultant yet, not had any x rays either. WE ARE IN SCOTLAND (Dumfries and Galloway). 2 -3 years waiting list. I wouldn't bother crossing the border!

I crossed the border in October 1999 and later developed arthritis in both hips. First replacement was in Feb 2010 [creaks now so due for renewal!] after some 6 months wait [needed to lose weight to minimise the risk from the anaesthetic]; second hipreplaced in 2011 after about 3 months wait. Brilliant service and care!

I waited for 12 mths for my Hip was told to give PALS a call , had it done 2 mth later so if you have to wait long maybe worth a call .
