Hoping to catch an Aurora?

If it makes you feel any better Terry we lived in Bergen for over 5 years and in all our time there, despite many overnight business trips to the far north, I never ever saw the aurora. I was once in a pub in Trondheim and somebody came in to say the northern lights were going strong so I rushed outside but still didn’t see them! Had to wait until we got back here (Aberdeenshire) before we saw it, and then it was only a weak showing.

I've read that the aurora is better picked out by a camera than the human eye. I've never tested it myself because once I'm in bed I try to stay there. 😳

Im a bit sceptical about this stuff especially on the weekends I like my Brussel sprouts broccoli. It’s moon just having a fart after a flking. Nice bit of Yorkshire pudding.

2018 was saw them about 30 times with Naked eye over the period of 2 months in north norway and all colours,we didnt have a camera good enough to record the images, these lights photos ive taken were only visible as swirls of white cloud and the occaisional green / blue but the camera brings out the colours better

We've seen them quite a few times now on our trips from the motorhome and the last time when we did a last minute fly-drive with the grandkids.
2023 november,Easyjet were doing flights to Rovaniemi at a reasonable cost so before I knew it we'd booked flights, hire car and places to stay through booking.com.The first stop after a quick visit to santa claus village enroute was Tankavaara gold village.Got a lucky shot considering the lights from the building.

On a Norwegian cruise several years ago I took some photos of the Aurora with my camera. They were rubbish. So the next night again out on deck I was standing next to a chap who had superb photos on his phone. I asked him why his phone took good pictures and he said it's ?the latest iPhone, with three camera lenses. He said you ought to get one, it is better than a camera. So I got a second hand one at half the cost of a new one and it takes such good photos that my camera is gathering dust in a cupboard.
Fast forward and I was fitting a new, bigger fresh water tank to my motorhome. It was deeper than the original tank so I needed to extend the old level sensing probes down to the bottom of the tank. I worked out how to do it, and once I had, I stuck my phone and arm in through the inspection hole in the top of the tank and pressed the photo button. I was amazed at the result: this is taken inside a thick walled black plastic tank with my arm blocking virtually all of the inspection hole
