It’s all in me ed son lol

If I canny remember a place then it’s no worth going back? I’m more disorganised than you I like too wing it just up and go and I’m scared to keep a log of what I’m realy spending cos ide get a shock if I knew.

I write a blog, in which I record something we found interesting about each place we stop, together with the dates and a few photos.

I don’t record miles and fuel, unless it’s one of our longer France/Spain jaunts.

Blog. Google maps with our sleep spots and comments. Expenses app for all expenditure. Don’t log fuel consumption or routes.

I have every trip we have done , date , number of nights, cost of site, name of site, or if wildcamping nearest town or land mark. I enjoy looking back at where we have been helps plan the next year.

I record everywhere we stay, along with fuel and maintenance all in one book. It's nice to have a record to have and has been useful a few times.

I used to write a blog and have a website but I Cant be bothered these days so I might occasionally write a specific guide like motorhome spots near water, Pyrenees, Cote D Azur etc. I kind of wish I had kept the blog up though as its really useful when you need to remember where you have been. Mrs D keeps a spreadsheet with everything on it however so we can refer to that. Its nice to remind yourself of the adventures as well as the years go buy and memory fades.

We have been at this lark a while now and with some long trips under our belt you start to realise that there are less and less new places to see so having a record of where you have been is useful. On odd occasions we have headed somewhere only to remember we have been there before!

Never recorded anything. What's the point of totting up expenses. You're either going to motorhome or not.
If setting your enjoyment of touring etc against what you spend then, surely, it's going to ruin any pleasure you expect to gain.
As we use the drive and stop method of planning (?) most of the time we have no idea where we are, where we've been or where we're going! Bit like Holiday for Altzeimers!

I started a simple diary when we first got the van. Just record overnight stops, weather, places spotted en-route. Usually record milage but not expenditure, my bank does that! It has been really useful on many occasions when neither of us can remember exactly where that "great place we saw" was. Also interesting to recall the many trips we have made.

Hi

I used to record the continental journeys. But over the years I never looked back at them. I could remember places we wanted to return, or not, to. Journey miles do not change and are easily worked out, so I do not need those. Costs are what they are and change with inflation. As already said, "you're either going to motorhome or not."

Regards

I don’t care about costs etc but I do use an iOS app called Pinbox I record Aires and places of interest by taking a photo on the iPhone the app saves the photo with its gps coordinates and address and each entry shows on a map. I can therefore when viewing the map click the pin and the details of the aire are shown together with my notes. It’s an invaluable way of storing aire and places of interest information. I also use the notes function on the iPhone in a similar way and of course that syncs with the laptop. I imagine Pinbox is also available on Android but I don’t know for certain.

I video most places we visit, jot down anything relevant in a little book, keep receipts and then when everything's been collated when we get back home I can post the videos on Youtube and I can see where we've been and relive the experiences in these dark wet windy snowy days before the better weather arrives.

Boring life, isn't it ?

And your videos have proved a valuable asset to many Keith. Im not bothered about recording costs, Mrs D likes to as she was an accountant so like facts and figures. They are useful though as I can now pretty much work out how much gas I have left based on what time of year it is and past usage. We have a bet at the LPG pump and one of us is usually within a litre. I like to do loads of planning as well before a trip, I dunno how people can just set off and not have a plan, what if you miss something fantastic? a record of past history helps with that.

Oh dear we must seem complete anoraks!!

We have notebooks listing sites going back over twenty years and since we started going abroad have both written daily logs with mileage, campsite details and places of interest. I write two sides of notes in an A5 notebook every evening. I also download photos each day to a laptop and memory stick backup.

Several years ago I did a website design course and started our website where I add each year's foreign trips as a photo journal and sites and Aires. We've had contacts from all over Europe and even Australia asking for advice. Keeps me busy during the winter months - note to self - I must get last year's trip completed!

The blog is brilliant, already got some ideas from it. Thanks.

I’ve got a big giant ball of wool I tie it to the fence at house before I leave but if I’m going on a longer journey I drop smarties out the window every 100 yds.
