How do you keep track of your journeys?

I’ve got a big giant ball of wool I tie it to the fence at house before I leave but if I’m going on a longer journey I drop smarties out the window every 100 yds.

Cabin fever has defo got a grip o you

I use Maps.me on a tablet to record overnight locations(and more).

Locations are named using numbers eg 001 Calais 002 Richebourg
The kml file can be used in Google My Maps Or Earth or TomTom or a simple list in a spreadsheet.
I also import POIs into maps me which is better than a sat nav for planning (10in Screen)
For costs etc
I keep a spreadsheet on a laptop as this gives me what I want rather than what the APP wants
Each day has its own row (so a bit like a journal)and the columns are as follows
Date / Location / Mileage / distance / campcost / rating / Food / Diesel / Gas / Ferry(Tollsetc) / Tourist / Other / Moho
I like to look back and look ahead and get a realistic estimate of costs (not that it Matters)

I take photos and do a website rather than a blog with photos and text.
I prefer a web-site compared with a blog as it is then more like a diary Day 1 first Day 99 last.
It also allow me to choose the layout of a given photo gallery or use the slideshow option (with thumbnails)
I can put several photo galleries of different layouts on the same page !

All a bit SAD !
We each have our own ideas for what we like and what is good

I've got a diary in the van which I try to remember to fill in anytime I go off in the van, including mileage of each journey etc.

My phone keeps track of where I have been. The sim records where I was on any one day through the 'time line' facility in Google Maps. Used with a bit of streetview it gives me the reminders I need.:)

We're intending to journal our travelling - but not so much the wheres and how muches, but more how we are feeling about it and how we've overcome the challenges. :)

jan sometimes records expenditure on a trip but this is our inspiration normally just look for the biggest area we haven’t been and head for that there's about 15years worth of trips on this map and on another two for spain & portugal

First trip on the Road we recorded mileage and expenses, out of interest to see what it cost us. It worked out that apart from the fuel we didn't spend anymore than we did if we had stayed at home. I keep a sketchbook of our travels which is so nice to look through every now and then, and in The back I write the date and the stopover location, which is handy if we're in that area again. After that first trip to France, we don't keep any record, it costs what it costs,a dm as long as we can afford it, why worry.

I used to write a blog and have a website but I Cant be bothered these days so I might occasionally write a specific guide like motorhome spots near water, Pyrenees, Cote D Azur etc. I kind of wish I had kept the blog up though as its really useful when you need to remember where you have been. Mrs D keeps a spreadsheet with everything on it however so we can refer to that. Its nice to remind yourself of the adventures as well as the years go buy and memory fades.

We have been at this lark a while now and with some long trips under our belt you start to realise that there are less and less new places to see so having a record of where you have been is useful. On odd occasions we have headed somewhere only to remember we have been there before!

I was about to ask if anyone did a spreadsheet Barry, any chance of a copy being posted???

Liz occasionally writes something down for us to google when we get back home, usually forget to do it then try to remember what it was as we can't find the paper, I use Maps.me to record places we might like to go back to, and have different sets to mark water and toilets, good places to eat, places to visit, National trust places etc, also set for the different national supermarkets.

Liz like to do research in the areas we might wander into, but generally we just head north and wander around, no real plan, we might just look at the sky and head for the brighter bit, we is wandering bears :D :D

Not costs, but I keep a log of each trip, location, distance, no. Of nights etc. I really enjoying looking back on the older eateries as it prompts so many memories I wouldn’t recall otherwise.

We did once work out the relative cost of each night in the van based on the cost of the van divided by nights away etc, but I think the maths we were using were a bit out, never got back to doing it properly.
