How much to change a clutch on an 07 Ducato.

I'm an optimist, I'm nice to people and more often than not they're nice to me, the garage has tons of 5 * feedback over many years, I'm not stupid & I don't just pluck a place out of the air and give them my dosh, I vetted the place with people I know around here, 3 of them are mechanics working in the trade and they all said I'd be okay there so I'm not worried.

The question you responded to was for David though, I'm sure he has done hundreds of cash jobs off the books, but I also bet he would stand behind every single one of them, you can tell he's an honest man and has respect, you don't get that by being a bounder.

your so right if you pick the right person . people that know me will tell you IF i said this guy does a super cheap job they take me at my word if i say that guy is a con artist they take my word that's all you need to know . BUT i took a chance which in life you have to sometimes & checked this guy out to make & fit new removable carpets & what a superb job & cheap ( paid cash ) he did . cheyenne

Thinking about your comment there David.

Have never done a job for cash no VAT?

Actually the answer would be generally no.
I could not say never, as I have done jobs for friends and they have paid me for my time and of course any parts used, but I honestly don't do a "£xx for cash" deal.
And these certainly wouldn't run anywhere close to the hundreds.

I am currently not VAT Registered and so when I have been asked sometimes what the 'cash price' is, no difference is the answer :) I have lost a few sales where someone is able to get VAT back and so can get a cheaper overall price than I can offer, which is fine and the way it goes.
I am not a very good businessman :)

At Triple S, we often did a job for nowt, just a few small bits for friends that were peanuts anyway or for good customers of which we had plenty, they'd come to collect their frame etc and bring in a couple of bits they'd forgotten so we'd do them and post them back, customer relations and went a long way, but we never did any work of the books as we had no way of knowing who some of these people were, Saturday mornings were and still are manic, (I stay in touch) queueing up outside sometimes from all over, they'd have rung up for a quote from work or just turn up.

As a courier, it was all on the books from business to business.

I've never been a fan of shall we say "double bookkeeping" :)
Doing a good job at a decent price (which I am realising was a lot lower than others seem to be charging!) is the way IMO.

little story .. got a call last month from someone who wanted to setup a Hybrid battery system but didn't want to buy my VSDR Lithium Controller for it, as they decided it was too expensive. And they didn't want to buy the American "Battery Manager" (another way to achieve this but at significantly higher price).
He sent me about 10 WhatsApp messages with loads of questions and then called me saying he didn't want to spend the £150 or whatever it is (I should really know how much! It is my product :( ) on the VSDR and could I help him configure his setup to avoid having to pay me money for my product which is there to do precisely what he wants.
I was a little taken back by that have to say. Clearly wanted my knowledge but didn't value my time at all?

I hope you gave him the appropriate response David.

I'm happy to go VAT free it's a tax and we all hate taxes unless you are retarded, but we all pay loads anyway and no way changes his earnings, back pocket for a lot of people.

Was his name Mat. 😂
Lucky you hadent the rug pulled from under your feet LOL.

Where would your warrenty be if the garge went t-ts up a week later, there in truth is no such thing, best price and a good job outweighs warrenties.
Depends if it's parts or workmanship at fault anyway, But I'm in England Trev so you won't be anywhere near it :D :D :D

Hymer tag axle clutch replacement in Portugal 13 years ago 2.8 jtd A class, in a Fiat dealership cost me 1200 Euros took 4 days to do, sourcing parts was problem we slumbered in an hotel for 5 nights courtesy of the insurance Beja we got to know the town very well, good experience as it turned out, we were wild camping at the Domingo s mines at the time the clutch started slipping but managed to get to Beja OK under our own steam and I had booked the job a few days previously telling my breakdown insurance company before hand who said that if we conked out on route they would rescue us

I took the van in for a new clutch this morning, it was slipping on hills in top but otherwise okay but going to Ireland in September so want it right.

Hope it goes well.
Something I have never seen mentioned on forums is any problems with DMFs (Dual Mass Flywheels) on Ducatos. Do they not have them? or they do, but are very reliable?
With the VW Transporters it was a very common problem once you got to a higher mileage (when I bought my T5, I knew the DMF was due for replacement and had it done at around 170,000 miles. A quick way to confirm IIRC was the inability to reverse up a hill or drive on wet grass (you'd also change the clutch when the DMF was changed anyway))

I had to change my DMF at 110000 mile as the flywheel was make a right old noise needless to say I change the clutch at the same time

I think it's the same 2.2 Transit engine that my self-build had David and it did have one, and @180k it was buggered so I changed it.

I guess most motorhomes are pretty low mileage so people don't experience it?

Speak for yourself, mine has 120k on it now, I couldn’t spend the money to buy one then not use it lol
if I spoke for myself, I would tell you I had 115k on it now :)

But we are in a significant minority. (or should that be INSIGNIFICANT, i.e. small minority?)
