I can’t go to any rallies

That’s very interesting Thankyou.

We have tried all sorts of the last 7 years treats for ignoring but found that the whole other dog thing does cause him some stress.

He shakes him shelf I was told that’s how he de stresses. And everything that’s what he does when another dog has gone out of sight.

I was not going to talk about he we came across him but he was a puppy and up to just over a year old but he was not treated very well and barking and winding up other does is just a part of what he was used for. Need I say more .
Anyway I got him one way or another. He has calmed down a lot over the last 7 years. .

I can get him to sit. Even while he is barking at another dog. So he is listening to me…

But feeding was difficult in fact will not eat anything unless I put it on a kitchen roll or throw it on the grass. Never changed again tried everything .

As for bitting he stopped that about 9 months after we had him. Still got the scars on my arms Bless him.

Now a very very soft and affectionate dog. Loves meeting people and children. Totally changed except the dog thing .

We just assumed he was stating we are his property so his keep away.

Anyway he is family and you work around what you have with no regrets no sorrow. Just some really good times and both the dogs make laugh at least once a day. And will continue to do so hopefully for many years to come..

I am sure I have posted this image before. It was raining we were in Morecambe visiting and he had a very sad face and to me that’s what made the photo.

Yes, the shake off is a common way of de-stressing.

That sounds like you are too close. It's a little bit like you are putting on the brakes after you have driven over the cliff edge - you may find it a lot easier if you give him much more distance from the other dog. There will be a point where he can see a dog in the distance without needing to bark at it.
will not eat anything unless I put it on a kitchen roll or throw it on the grass.
Is that when there are other dogs, or is that all the time?

I can get hi to sit at the end of a 8 mtr extending lead

We now have a walk in progress he sees another dog. And I say turn he turns away and we walk on. Depends how far away
The dog is before he stops barking but the most of the time it is instant unless the other dog walk decides to close the gap fast and we’re back to square one..
The turn command works every time. And does so along a beach at he is a long way from me .
The command turn we started to teach him from the very fist week it was a dog behaviour specialist that said use that .
He can run off when there are no dogs about again the command turn and he spins around very fast and runs back to me.
Round the back and sits by my left hand that’s the side he’s walked on .
But another dog seen and he’s a runner.

We have another dog an each have a bowl. Both drink out a of a deepish water bowl as a spaniel sh3 eats out of a deep bowl. He will go out of has wany to walk round. It until he sees his dinner a flat plate that must be Tatar cover with kitchen paper if he sees the plate he won’t go near it.

However tip it on the garden grass and he is th3 fist one there . The spaniel just looks at me as to say what’s happens ..

For the feeding, some dogs have little quirks like that - I guess if it's on the grass, there's nothing to compromise his peripheral vision so he feels more secure eating it.

he sees another dog. And I say turn he turns away and we walk on

But another dog seen and he’s a runner.
Not sure how these two points match up?

He is a very complex dog. But we love him he’s family even when the two of them are run amok when we’re out for a hour. We have a WiFi dog cam always worth a look. Funny things .

Come to a meet request that you are parked on the end away from any paths were people are walking past all day and it will be fine we do have other members who have dogs that bark and yap for various reasons my dog Taya used to snarl and spit and growl at anyone approaching me or the van but now at 18 she has retired from being my body guard and just sleeps.

Thankyou worth thinking about. Check out post # 11 now there’s a person like many others that think it’s the owners fault .

If your dog was a rescue then it certainly is someones fault. You have jumped to the conclusion (wrongly) that I am blaming you for its behavior. Please point out where I did that exactly.
As for me knowing nothing about dogs, you are wrong again (you really should stop jumping to conclusions). We have a record of taking in damaged dogs that stretches back over 50 years and we have fully rehabilitated all of them.
I believe that you live not far from me in the North East of England, so why don't we meet up with the dogs and you can have the chance to slag me off face to face. I might even point you in the right direction so that you can attend rallies. By the way, we attended rallies with up to 6 dogs in our van and most people diid not even realise that we had dogs with us.

You are new on here and are going the wrong way to make friends who can be very helpful when you need help.

Yes he is a rescue dog and he is not the first one we have had either. Two before him.
But no thanks for your offer.

To be fair, there are quite a number of of things that can contribute to a dog becoming reactive; including (but not limited to) genetics, epigenetics, experiences during a critical fear period, poor or no socialisation and of course handler input.

As the title says I can’t go to any rallies, the reason being I have two small dogs a cocker spaniel and a Jack Russell cross.

The cocker spaniel is one year old puppy and looks at other dogs who’s not sure what they are and rather take to humans the Jack Russell can’t stand the sight of other dogs close in the distance in a car in van in fact anywhere the chances are it can see another dog it does nothing but constantly barks. The dog when are the lead will not stop barking all the time a dog is in sight.

So the Jack Russell cross has restricted where we go not to dogs fault he was a rescue dog and rather sat in his way when we got him.

We have never considered moving the dog on and never will do however he has unknowingly restricted us to some campsites and dog walking areas. Does anybody else have the same problems as us?

We have been to dogs therapy units some cost as much as £70 an hour and nothing so far has helped.
Lots of dog trainers say they can cure the dog or actually fix his behaviour however so far in seven years that we’ve had him no so called dog trainers have managed to do anything they’ll give up we never will still he is family and every family have their own problems .

Hence we’re a little restricted and hopefully for many years to come.
We had 2 Jack Russel terrorist in bygone days first one no problem real Pussy then we got another one a Pup big mistake the new one grew up to be boss dog and caused all sorts of problems they used to fight with each other and bark at anything, took Toby to the vets to seek advice and he said we could try hormone injections of female hormones , ok we said and it did work cost £50 though , but peace for about 3 months and it all started again so back to the vet again , this time I said I want him castrated ok said the vet , got the job done , what a difference that made Toby turned into a right Pussy slept in the same basket as the older dog, Jack .and peace reigned for many years after that , So have you considered castration for your dog it could be a life changer for you and your Pets ?

This is not unusual, especially in Terrier breeds. That is how we came to have a Jack Russell (female)*. She needed a new home due to fighting with an older JR dog. It seemed to be the dog who started the fight. Our Vet explained that this often happens when the younger dog gets to around 15 to 18 months old.
She was very nervous when she arrived but settled in very well with 4 Whippets and 2 pugs. There was the occasional little spat (from her) but she revelled in our daily walk, which she had never had. She was extremely intelligent and quickly learned to search for and chase Squirrels (greys) with the Whippets. Years later she taught 2 new Whippets we got how to chase Squirrels as they had no idea what to do. :giggle:

* The forum will not allow the correct word for a female dog (the b word). :ROFLMAO:

Neutering has pros and cons. It certainly can help some dogs, but with others (boys) taking away the 'brave' hormone testosterone can make them more anxious and more likely to take the 'attack is the best form of defence' approach.

If anyone is on the fence, there's a hormone implant called Suprelorin that offers temporary chemical castration; so you can see how it works out without doing something irreversible.
