I got 2 solar outside lamps for the back yard, with remote control for £6.99 :)
Now im going to get told of bor buying from temu, its the same sh-t you get on ebay from sellers at a fraction of the price. sometimes.
 
Thats a pretty wide judgement David.
 
Does ebay and most high street shops the fall into that catagory, i have seen the same stuff on there shelves aat a big mark up, pound shops also spring to mind, then there are cut price car/van tyres from god knows where, hard to avoid.
 
Exactly Trev, We bought quite a few things from there for Crimble, only the two very cheapest things were rubbish & we got refunded, the rest were good quality for the price, UK prices are silly now as most imported, very little worth having is made in the UK and again silly prices.

Maybe. But you buy something from Temu and you KNOW you are buying stuff that is being made under extremely dubious working conditions.

If I wanted something and I only had the money to pay Temu prices, I would go without instead.
 
I know nothing of the sort David, I could assume it, a lot of stuff comes from China, is rebranded and has a UK name and address on it these days so you just never know for sure but each to their own.
 
Julie bought some items for Xmas presents off temu all was utter crap and only fit for the bin she did get a refund but put us off using again

You can do the maths and work it out based on what something is selling for and how fast it can be possibly produced and the cost of materials. Not rocket science.

You can also read the news and research done by organisations investigating Modern Slavery and Forced Labour practices - For example "a US government investigation found an "extremely high risk" that products sold on Temu could have been made with forced labour".

Some outlets and manufacturers do actively do checking. To a well enough extent may be debatable, but at least they make some kind of believable commitment...

But, yes. It is far simplier to just ignore the facts and get your tat as cheap as possible from CCP sponsored/controlled companies

Chinese prisoners (criminal or political) are made to work. China is one of the most corrupt countries in the World and there will be backhanders and dirty dealing going on to line peoples pockets. I spent some time in China and saw how the system works.
 
Bought a book recently from Waterstones and was most surprised it was printed in China, then I wondered why I was surprised.

All the white goods in most folks homes comes from china, as does the electrics in BMW cars, other makers do the same, ie VW will be building cars there, should i get my pushbike out, david may well try to stay clear, but almost impossable these days

you are missing the point, Trev.
There are factories in China that treat their workers decently, and there are factories that treat their workers literally like slaves - provided by the CCP.
If you are paying pennies for a product, just try and think how much (if anything) the people who are making it are getting paid? You don't want to know clearly, you just want to get stuff as cheaply as you can with the excuse of "well, it is all made in the same place" as an excuse.


BTW. All the white goods don't come from China as all. Lots are made in Turkiye for example.

My kettle toaster m wave blrnder all say made in china, i even sell outboards made there, yes its a top factory, owned by the yanks ppg paints.
Yes many things are made under duress, im not snubbing you or making a argument for the temu site and many others like ebay.
Mind you these look good, quality may not be as others say, what i do find is no long term warenty, 30 days and tuff sh-t after that.rv door curtain.jpgtable brackets.jpg
 
Just because you have stuff made in China does not mean ALL stuff is made there!

Get decent stuff from a decent seller and you also get a decent warranty plus decent quality.
I have a Heated Vest (made in China) which is dead handy this time of year. I just checked the "Temu" Price out of interest ... from £24. I paid more from Amazon for sure.
It has started to play up so I contacted Amazon and despite being over a year old I am getting a full refund.


Now take that table .... £6.29 for a table, posted to you at no cost. How much would it cost to make that table, package it and send it from China to you? How long would it take to make that table? How much could the people would put it together possibly get paid to make it?
Yes, it looks like an amazing bargain but at what cost?
There is no point in continuing this discussion as we will never agree when "Everything" is "made in China" as a retort.

I did not say everything, most is, and its only the 2 brakets you get, post from china is almost free and sorted by the gov to move stuff bringing in the dollars, same brakets prob at local caravan shop at 3 times the price, but comes from the same sweet shop in china, hard to get round this.
 
I read somewhere that the cheap prices are a play for a large market which if achieved is when prices will go up significantly. Having hooked customers essentially they will be reeled in for higher priced goods.
Unless you actually live in or are associated with people in China who have first hand experiences of practices we don't know who is making or the impact positive or negative on their lives.
Let's not kid ourselves that there are not European and American companies who will not exploit other countries work practices in the name of profit margins even if they bury those practices in paper or internet trails

Correct and very true, temu also im sure sells your data to others as do most big sites, a penny here a peny there soon adds up to millions.

I'm waiting for the day when LED lights last as long as and perform as well as they claim. It doesn't matter where you get your LEDs they will fail in 12 months turned on or not.
