I need to find a value for my motorhome, and want to sell privately

Good news. How/where did you advertise?
I advertised it on Facebook market place the reason was you can check out the profile of pros purchasers making it easier to wheedle out the tyre kickers and scam buyers plus when the lady did purchase it I went to the bank with her while the money was transferred to my account with my iPad so I could check before I handed over the keys It was all very painless.

It will sell so fast on f book you wont have time to blink, think of what you would like to get and add a few grand, you can always lower on the day to make a sale.;)

Yes I had a base price in my mind as to what I wanted for it and it exeeded that so I was happy I didn’t want to get into a haggling war so I was happy

I don’t actually know how to access FB marketplace, although I have a FB account I don’t use it.

pm me with a fools guide please.

When you open your Facebook page click the little house at the bottom pic (1
then click Sell in pic(2
then just follow the instructions for your add potential buyers will then contact you through messenger and before you reply to them you click on there name and it will bring up their profile so you can do a bit of background checks knowing who you are selling to is half the battle I had a lot of requests from the same village in Ireland with strange names but the same profile picture but easy to wheedle them out.

My very recent experience was:

Webuyanymotorhome offered me £20k
Motorhome depot offered me £28k
Somerset motorhomes offered me a respectable £32k
I advertised for £34k (there were a couple of similar vans at dealers for around £40k) on autotrader, ebay and on here...
Only autotrader brought results with several calls and two visits resulting in a sale at £32k
Go privately, don't be shy about the price of a well maintained and quality van. Expect time wasters and "travellers" offering to buy without seeing. But be patient and you will get a deal.
Good luck

Well, created! Not easy as my FB on the iPad doesn’t allow me to access the little button for marketplace, although I did get a way into parts and accessories and uploaded something or so I thought. Then I couldn’t see it.
However my iPhone does have the marketplace icon as shown above. So I recreated it once more - very tedious on the phone. Then it wouldn’t allow me to use as much detail as I wanted.
Then for some unknown reason FB seems to want to place me in Exeter Tasmania!
Anyhow, I see the first ad I’d made appears to be online, I wonder what will come of the other? Ho hum, where’s a 5 year old when you want one to help out.

You maybe need to check out what the problem is on the iPad as I did all mine on the iPad so far I’ve sold 3 things and purchased one.

And now I can’t find any evidence of it at all. Clearly I’ve done something wrong but no idea where to go looking

were the Motorhome depot and Somerset offers actually offers to buy? or were they brokerage and those wer the prices you would get when they found a buyer?
I would have thought the Somerset motorhome deal would have been worth taking if you advertised for £34k and willing to take an offer?

Yes, I was going to suggest FB marketplace.

I'm with the "Why would you sell it" brigade. We've just switched our 2010 reg Autotrail for a 22 reg Swift and the difference in build quality and finish is jaw dropping. I don't know what's happened to quality control - maybe they just don't bother any more?

Yes they were offers to buy. Somerset offered £31k at first and I told them there was already someone coming to see the van and we agreed a £32k price as a deal if the viewers didn't buy. They did buy 👍
Somerset were great and it shows how much they must be able to sell on for as if we had done the deal they would have flown someone up to Newcastle. Taxi to me then drive back on trade plates:oops:
Worth talking to I would say...

I would have sold to the dealer I think :)
(I get paranoid about something not working at sale time although it worked perfectly before hand and problems out of my control occuring which will let the other person down. This is one reason why I have never gone down the route of building campers specifically for resale which I know can be quite a money earner, especially nowadays.
Selling to a dealer, the onus is shifted to him 100% so if it is believed (by me) to be good and works at point of sale, good enough for me.)

I know what you mean but I was confident in the van and know how it was looked after by me and passed all the service records over, gave them a good tour of the van and pointed out dings and bruises. They were a nice couple who had been looking for an IH and had been disappointed by what they had seen previously. I could easily have stuck out for the full £34k but call me soft but I wanted £32k and was happy to let it go at that.

Hi,

We’ve sold our last 2 vans privately with no trouble at all. The first one was through Autotrader. The second one was through Facebook marketplace.
We’re now selling our Autotrail Comanche and we have also added upgrades. 2 x 200 amp hour lithium batteries with Victron MPPT controller for the 300W solar and a Victron 2000W inverter. The van already came with a 100W solar panel so it’s now got a total of 400W.
We’re so busy right now that we don’t have time for tyre kickers etc so just today, we had Motorhome Depot here to market it for us.
We’re happy with the price he hopes to sell it for and obviously they need to earn a crust. We feel with all of the marketing they do and sifting through time wasters etc that their fee is reasonable. Webuyanymotorhome didn’t offer a completely ridiculous amount but Motorhome Depot are aiming to sell it for approx £7K more. If we sold privately we might get £2K more but this way we know there will be no time wasters.
He took video as well as photos and makes sure only serious buyers come to view.
Just sharing my experience in case you have no joy selling on Marketplace. Good luck though. I’m sure you’ll have no problem at all 😁
I’ll let you know if we actually sell it! 🫣😆

Are vans still going up in value? I heard that they’re dropping again? They were like Rocking Horse S**T during Covid but there are literally loads for sale now. Maybe those that have fallen on hard times, those that made an impulse buy, those that bought instead of cruising etc etc.
When we were looking for our Comanche there were hardly any to be found. Currently there are 24 on Autotrader!
I’m not sure if we’re selling ourselves short with our price but there is huge competition now!

Have you had any joy yet Simon? We’ve been told that van prices are dropping again now. I wouldn’t be supposed with the cost of living, mortgage rates, etc etc.
