Insurance.

was that through a comparison site? I found with Motorhome/Camper policies those prices are never very good :(

I am renewing my policy in two weeks time and my renewal price is less than your increase!
But impossible to compare due to policy features and customer location (I don't have any breakdown cover within the policy for example).

But going by your post, the cost is 50% higher? my increase is under 10% for the same features as before. You must surely have made some changes or chosen a different insurer? (but it does say "thanks for continuing to use ...." though!)

We renewed our insurance through AIB some 3 weeks ago wef 16th August and got the Forum Member Discount. We reduced the M/Home Value from £54k to £50k, the Annual Mileage to 8,000 from 10,000, but kept the 270 Days European Trip Cover via AXA to take advantage of Elaine's Irish Passport. The Annual Premium was £591.67 [would have been £631.67 for a Non-Member of the Forum].

The Renewal Papers went astray in the Post [but eventually the last 2 sets arrived in the same Royal Mail run ... so succeeded at the 2nd or 3rd time of asking!] and the electronic version also took the long route through cyberspace, so some initial consternation. But Adam Moate at AIB went above and beyond to get the duplicate policies issued, including 2 follow up courtesy calls to check that we had everything we needed. This more than met the 'what about the response/support when you need to help/make a claim?' test. So cover that meets our needs, at a competitive premium, and an excellent support response

Same policy ,75k value ,365 days usage eu break down .
5000kg tagg .hgv. just checked on compare sites anything from 725 to 1250. 20k miles.
The high value/high mileage combination will have a significant adverse effect on your renewal premium. I used to assume that a high mileage driver who had made no claims would be a better risk than a low mileage no claims client. Shows how wrong I can be!

why the 50% uplift then I wonder? nothing changed other than the price?

I had the same thing with Safeguard one year, but due to having very many hospital visits I forgot to renew so when I remembered it had to go through as a new policy not a renewal and it was £250 cheaper than my quoted renewal for exactly the same cover so it will be worth phoning them and quizzing the about it.

Something that really does annoy me is when you get a renewal and you can get the price reduced significantly by challanging them. It is like being told 'we tried to rip you off but you caught us out'.

I haven't had a renewal letter for my policy yet .. I only know the difference as I decided to look into prices quite early. This coming year my policy went over the £200 mark :( But increase is only about £20, so less than I was expecting from what I have generally read about increasing policy prices, so ok with that.

Todays renewal CMC £80 more than last year. Tried comparison site and same insurer was £620, that is £260 more than quoted today on the phone £360
.
Comparison site lowest was £40 cheaper than CMC but from an unknown company, better the devil you know!!!!!!
.
Only two companies quoted lower than our renewal price,

That sounds a lot. I renewed ours with Safeguard for exactly the same MH as you (2017 Comanche) and it was £481...so well worth a phone call to them. From memory this was only 40 quid more than the previous year.

I have frequently used AIB and found them excellent, no waiting on the phone for 15 mins listening to some horrible noise coming from an under water loudspeaker. However when I wanted to buy a new-ish motorhome, because it was over £60k they required a tracker costing £450 to install plus £90 per annum, in addition to the manufacturer's immobiliser. Which of course puts the premium up by £90 per annum, on top of the original £450 installation. Being a retired electronics engineer I would have no problem at all installing a good wired alarm (not a wireless one that broadcasts to all and sundry the operating frequency and code) I phoned around a bit and was happy with NFU of all people, who don't require an alarm or immobiliser. Knowing the cost of materials for an alarm, and that you can use any old mobile phone as a tracker I am not prepared to pay those installation costs. When I leave the house for a period for any reason I can jack up the camper and remove the wheels. That'll slow the bar stewards down.

Oh and by the way my last mh was a Hobby on a Transit chassis. I went to the NEC and was accosted by Caravan Guard - you know, the company that has the spinning game where you win a lollipop if you get a quote from them). They refused to quote at all, because it was on a Transit.

Is your cover inclusive of break down cover.

Yes - UK and Europe. Also 15000 miles p.a. and protected no claims as well. £100 voluntary excess on top of their £200 standard. Also legal cover as standard.

Sounds the same just we ask for 20k miles.

From what they told me the mileage is a nominal figure really. Seems strange your has gone up so much. Have you had any significant birthday in the last year?

Iv'e just renewed my insurance It had gone up £40 so did the usual shop around and somehow managed to get a call back from one of the companies which came up on the comparison site . Turns out I was already insured by them and finding out I was shopping around dropped the increase on the policy. They were by far the best cover and competitive on price AIB for me ! ;)
Speaking to a few others and there was a mention of a 20% increase across the board soon so get it sorted out.
