Internet in van ( many thanks to all )went with firestick

Recently moved home and had no issues with giffgaff.
That’s the main worry with changing…..memories of changing address previously and a long walk up the hill to receive a signal with different provider.
For the first 3 weeks here I had no household internet so was totally dependent on giffgaff.
Used a total of 19 Gb in that time before finally getting internet connection at home.
Doubtful I would ever do 3 weeks in the van.

I am trying a Huawei router with a Lebara 30g sim £2.98 for three months then £7.99 and one 50g at £3.99 then up to £9.99 working ok at home and out in the van tell you next month when we become Snowbirds
Gordon the Router cost £49 English of Amazon Might cost you more with the exchange rate ;) ;)

PS The router is 12v Gordon

I'm on Smarty and the coverage is generally good. I have a rolling £15/month 150gb, unlimited everything else and 12gb European roaming. Roseann has Gift Gaff on about £8 a month for 5gb just to give us another network.

Cheers

I bought a Netgear Nighthawke last year and a EE unlimited data sim. It has been brilliant. To date I have had a connection on all my travels, loch Tulla viewpoint, all over Skye, the lakes, north York Moors, etc, etc.
I run my tv from it to watch Sky sports thro my fire stick, no buffering and excellent picture quality. I used a Huawei router before the Netgear and there is no comparison.
Seriously considering cancelling my Virgin internet and using it at home.

Thinking on WiFi internet in van any suggestions that won't cost the earth pkease
Depends very much on your planned usage in terms of locations, likely download volume, degree of need for reliable, high-bandwidth connection irrespective of location.

Eight years ago had a Motorhome WiFi Ariel fitted on the roof and connected to a Huawei MiFi. It worked very well. We don’t use it now as we find linking directly to our Apple Phones, which happen to be 12’s work just as well if not better. This certainly meet our needs. Our provider is EE. We’ve streamed programmes, over a decent number of countries round Europe and the UK, and I cannot remember having any problems. Most areas without 5G tends to be the in the UK it has to be said.

Sandy do you use your hotspot on the phone to your tv .?
Yes. Although the TV we have in the Motorhome is an older model so I use a Roku box to access IPlayer, Netflix etc so the Roku box picks up my phone. We’re getting another motorhome and as a starting point I’m just going to go with my phone. I’ve just started watching our smart TV at home using my phone just to check. If your phone doesn’t appear on the TV’s list of of available networks, go to “personal hotspot” in settings and toggle off “Allow others to join”, then toggle back on again and your phone appears at this point.

We have a Huawei router in the van(3g/4g),with id mobile (3network) with rooftop poynting airel, was in the house but swopped it for an unlocked 3 zyxel 5g router ((no 5g at home yet) but it is much much faster on 3 network...have recently changed to talk mobile ..cheaper more data and more free roaming) we run 40 smart devices (sockets, lights, cameras, curtains, heating) and have no landline 150gb(30roaming) about £10 month Vodafone network

Just swapped our home virgin broadband for 3s 5g home broadband and it's been fantastic so far ....

So much so I've ditched the Teltonika rut 950 and EE data sim in the motorhome for another 3 5g broadband set up ...

Works great so far .

And it should get better when 3 and Vodafone networks combine..we have had no landline for 3yrs paid average £120yr so £360 instead of average £30 mth for a landline £360..3yrs £1080

Depends what you need. If you use it quite a lot every month and don't leave the UK, get a Scancom 3 prepaid sim (buy on Amazon).
If you don't use a lot, look at what's on offer at rwgmobile.wales.

I have a nighthawk 6 and use a prepaid scancom sim, means you cough up a fair bit in one go, but then £0 a month I chose a 3 sim as I have an EE sim in my phone, between the 2 never loose coverage. But Gordon don’t just buy the sim, sign up for membership and wait a bit I paid £164 for 38 months unlimited data, runs out in May 2027, the routers are readily available on eBay or Amazon.
I take mine when I stay in hotels etc, but it also means I can check the batteries on the MH when it’s in storage
