Is this the norm?

Prior to leaving Berck yesterday we headed over to the local Super U store to top with lpg. At the pump Bea spoke to booth attendant via the comm system at the pump. Her passport was required before enabling pump to distribute lpg. Is it the norm to be asked to produce a passport to be able to access lpg?

While I reset the safefill tank back to locker, check for fittings tightness using leak detection spray, Bea took pooch for a walk, on her return to MH, I said what was that all about with the passport? Oh says Bea, searching her bag, person in booth did not return her passport, so off she went to rip him a new one 😂

I’m glad I mentioned passport to her, or we would have been on our way to Calais, minus one French passport, plus Beas eBike would struggle to get her back to Berck 🤭

Very lucky Terry, that could have been a marital dispute 😱😱. We’ve never been asked for ID proof for an LPG fill, maybe they’ve had some drive away non payers? Reminds me of a trip years ago when we bought a camping stool from a store just north of Bordeaux, 80 miles or so heading north I looked at the card receipt and realised it read as 1000.00 euros instead of 10€ 😱😱. Wasn’t a problem when we returned to the store but lesson learnt 🤣🤣

No id proof requested for us, either. Biggest challenge is lpg pump eorking 1 side only, so if you try to fill on the 'wrong' side, the diesel/petrol pump, which is separate from the lpg pump, and where you pay for the lpg does not give you a 'lpg' icon to press ...

Next trip to France I’ll leave my shemagh at home😂

2 items.
No1 lpg pump had to be used on the other side of the pump.
Pump and way through desigmed for gas on the left ours is on the right
Luckily loads of room to do this.

No 2 Lidl charged me for 2 bottles pf rum...Did not notice intil the next day !
Oh well you "live and lose"

Re # 2. The lovely steak meal we had at Berck. Bill arrived, on close scrutiny, within the bill was two portions of moules with frites. Alarm bells ringing as this bumped bill up to just under €100. Questions asked , bill adjusted, error blamed on a colleague, tip withdrawn. They lost. FFS, why do businesses do this?

They are professionals, playing the odds.
They see a foreigner in holiday mode.. on holiday autopilot.
A large proportion don't even read the bill and have little idea of the expected cost..
I'd have thought your Scottish accent might have put them inon guard..?
My Yorkshire one works a treat.

I guess they chanced their mitt and lost out on a fair tip. Couldn’t knock the food though. 👍
