I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but any suggestions please where to look for another motorhome.
We have an elderly, but reliable 53 plate Autotrail Chieftain. Sadly my husband has just had a mini-stroke. He's fine BUT rules say he can't drive our motorhome for a whole year!!! I DO have a C1 licence but am not happy driving the "tank". We are looking for anything with 4 seatbelts, preferably manual, not really worried about age but MUST be reliable, and fine to drive on a car licence.
I wish I could say money no object, but alas no. Probably £20 - 30k, depending if/when we can sell our much loved Chieftain. Bona fide motorhome seller websites are anything from £40k and upwards!
We are in SE England, in Essex.
If this is not an appropriate place to ask, I apologise.
Best wishes

Has the TIA left him unable to drive and told by consultant so. If not he should be able to retain his C1. I say this because I was told I had a TIA in 2017 ( turns out after 7 years to be something else!😬) and was able to retain my C1. Only gave up at 70 because of medical hassle and inertia.🙄 Obviously his situation may be different. Also my confidence was affected iniatally.

I watch his videos.
Comes across as a pretty decent dealer who makes sure a van is sorted before sale.

I don't know if he would stock much in the price range quoted though and would send the older (aka cheaper) vans part-exed to auction, but worth checking.

What an encouraging reply. Thank you. I have sent the forms back to DVLA saying husband is perfectly able to drive, and also a very pleading sort of letter asking them to retain C1 licence. Now just a waiting game. But again, your comments have cheered me up enormously. Best wishes.

I'm surprised by this. I had what was initially diagnosed as a TIA and was told not to drive for a month. Tough really because we were in Portugal at the time. My wife had to drive home, and I had another funny turn, was referred to specialist Stroke Unit, who did loads of tests and diagnosed it as a small stroke, not TIA: no sign of brain damage, but symptoms linger, unlike a TIA. I was told not to drive for 3 months, but DVLA need not be informed. I just keep taking the tablets!

Was I nervous about driving? Yes! But that was 4 years ago, and I don't think about it now.

I hope you have every success with the DVLA. If not, it might be a cheaper option to seek a second medical opinion rather than change the van! Good luck and good health.
