Recommendations, please?
This is the one I use, I am beyond prise for this battery back-up, on one rally I actuarily started 3 vans one after the other, and still had power left, it saves having to move your van close to theirs to jump start, it's a great thing to have for peace of mind, good luck on your choice.
One person I helped, his battery was dead, it was old, and another one he just used too much power and not much sun, but he did not have B to B charger, I keep mine just for peace of mind and to help others when in need. This comes up now and again, i must ask why folk require them, maybe no solar or on board charger, even worse not using the van.
Smaller power packs are designed to give you a surge in cranking amps for a single moment to give you that extra push, they might struggle if the motor battery is totally dead i.e. voltage below 12v or cranking amps below the demand of the engine, we did a test with the battery disconnected, it turned the engine and started, but the power pack then automatically cuts out, so it needs the main battery to keep it going, also keep in mind Diesel engines are much easer to start then a Petrol engines.Hi everyone,
My understanding of electric batteries etc is pretty low but , how can a power pack the size of which you can put in your pocket have the power to start a large diesel engine that normally has a battery you can struggle to lift? Also our local shop only sell Einhell power packs has anyone tried these.? Thanks.
Starter motor on a diesel is twice as big as petrol due to 20/1 com ratio, but no spark required so evens out a bit.Smaller power packs are designed to give you a surge in cranking amps for a single moment to give you that extra push, they might struggle if the motor battery is totally dead i.e. voltage below 12v or cranking amps below the demand of the engine, we did a test with the battery disconnected, it turned the engine and started, but the power pack then automatically cuts out, so it needs the main battery to keep it going, also keep in mind Diesel engines are much easer to start then a Petrol engines.
On diesel you only need quarter turn to start engine, because it only takes a small bit of pressure to start engine.Starter motor on a diesel is twice as big as petrol due to 20/1 com ratio, but no spark required so evens out a bit.
Have had the same unit for 5 years, still going strong. not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.I bought an Anti Gravity Micro Start (XP01 I think) several years back and it has been great. It has started my diesel tractor on several occasions and with the optional compressor attachment I use it for putting air into all my vehicle tyres (including motorhome and large rear tractor tyres) whenever a top up is required. Not cheap but a great piece of kit Terry.
