Jump start power bank............

I carry a Boltpower one (suitable for upto 3 litre engines) but have not had to use it in anger yet...thankfully. It's a small compact item.

I cant remember the number of mine off the top of my head but there appears to be quite a range these days...

This comes up now and again, i must ask why folk require them, maybe no solar or on board charger, even worse not using the van.
One person I helped, his battery was dead, it was old, and another one he just used too much power and not much sun, but he did not have B to B charger, I keep mine just for peace of mind and to help others when in need.

Hi everyone,
My understanding of electric batteries etc is pretty low but , how can a power pack the size of which you can put in your pocket have the power to start a large diesel engine that normally has a battery you can struggle to lift? Also our local shop only sell Einhell power packs has anyone tried these.? Thanks.

Smaller power packs are designed to give you a surge in cranking amps for a single moment to give you that extra push, they might struggle if the motor battery is totally dead i.e. voltage below 12v or cranking amps below the demand of the engine, we did a test with the battery disconnected, it turned the engine and started, but the power pack then automatically cuts out, so it needs the main battery to keep it going, also keep in mind Diesel engines are much easer to start then a Petrol engines.

Starter motor on a diesel is twice as big as petrol due to 20/1 com ratio, but no spark required so evens out a bit.

On diesel you only need quarter turn to start engine, because it only takes a small bit of pressure to start engine.

FWIW, I have a NOCO Boost X GBX45 that I bought when Amazon were doing a deal on them. At the file price of £135, they're a bit pricey. That said, it got me out of trouble when a BCM fault discharged the battery of the car I then had for several nights and also got a couple of vans going when Jan and I were looking after a small campsite for friends. Here's a link to the Amazon product page -- although I'd suggest waiting for the next deal before buying...

Thank you for all your replies, folks.

GeoffL, black Friday will be raising its ugly head soon I think, I'm in no rush, I'll sit back and await what offers may be available soon.

I bought an Anti Gravity Micro Start (XP01 I think) several years back and it has been great. It has started my diesel tractor on several occasions and with the optional compressor attachment I use it for putting air into all my vehicle tyres (including motorhome and large rear tractor tyres) whenever a top up is required. Not cheap but a great piece of kit Terry.
Have had the same unit for 5 years, still going strong. not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.
Never had to use it in anger on my motorhomes or cars but have started numerous cars and a couple of motorhomes with no issues.
