Good research Colin. The rules seem fair enough Phil. Perhaps we should add winter meets only ?

I suggest that the Genny rules go in the invite. As Colin says if you don't agree then don't attend .

I would like to think that there will be no requirement for the marshal to police this during the meet as everyone will be considerate.

…..of course. This is, after all, Motorhomer.

We will just have to agree to disagree as the other noises are far more annoying to me, you were also running your own generator in the past .

I have been running a generator at a Motorhomer rally?

THIS IS NOT WILD CAMPING

This thread, these guidelines DO NOT effect wildcamping.co.uk

Motorhomer.com is meant to be different from wildcamping.co.uk.

And I and only going to say this once more Charlie.

I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GENERATORS
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE INCONSIDERATE USE OF GENERATORS

Please remember this post is about Motorhomer NOT wildcamping.

Thank you, everyone, who has given their opinion in this thread. It has given me some great feedback.

As I said in my first post, it is not generators that are the problem. It is the impact their use has on others.

We do hold rallies and meets in the winter where solar is not sufficient for some peoples energy needs.

Ultimately the choice to allow generators or not will be down to the rally organiser. But if they are allowed then they must be used within a set of guidelines.

Here are my thoughts on how those guidelines may look.

1) Generators should be reasonably quiet, very loud generators would not be allowed.
2) When possible a section of the site should be allocated for generator users. (large rallies)
3) When possible a section of the site should be allocated as generator free zone. (large rallies)
4) If generators are to be used where there is no allocated generator zone then they should only be operated between 10am-midday and 4pm-6pm.
5) In any case, generators should not be used before 10am or after 6pm.
6) Generators used for medical reasons should still not cause a nuisance to other members.
7) Generators should be used in a way that causes the least nuisance to other members.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are if you need to run a generator, then you as a responsible adult should take measures to cause as little disruption to your fellow members and to achieve this you need to consider where you park and there is always the option for siting the generator a distance from other people.
You should restrict the time that is running to a minimum and it shouldn't be run outside 10am. and 6pm.
Also if you haven't got a generator that is under 70 Dba then I'm afraid it can't be used.

P.S the noise level may need more thought before it's implemented.

Each to their pwn,i suppose but it seems no matter what, the anti geny btigade are quite blinkered. I hate the tin can old noisey gennies but the quieter type are ok for short periods. For us there are more annoying sounds than a continuous geny drone. Door slamming, dogs barking, kids, prople talking loud for long periods by your van, engines running, ond in hot westher tv,s up very loud eith windows wide open, same for radio. Dhoild we ban these? Personslly I think things ste getting too regimental! One thing not picked up on is, judt look at which members are always first to book the limited kook up, some of the same have lots of solar and battery power, i wonder if the meets are getting more german mentality like
Well most of the list that annoys you suggests to me that maybe camping is not for you as a camper I expect a certain amount of noise dogs barking as a lot of dog owners choose camping as their favoured holiday kids making a noise means they are having fun it’s when they go quiet I worry it usually means they are up to no good and the wiz bang doors I don’t mind at all, people sat outside vans chatting is what camping is all about, generators have a place but you do have to take into consideration where you are parked and how long you run them for that is all the so called generators haters are asking.

I think your proposals are fair Phil
Not that we'd bring a genny in our current camper
I personally would rather listen to the drone of a genny than a barking dog
Well let’s just ban genies, dogs, kids, teenagers, music, talking after 7pm, campfires, intact anything that irritates anybody this thread is getting daft now someone suggested we were being treat like children reading this thread some of us are acting like children.

Let’s not talk about generators anymore, pretty please.............. every time I hit the new post button, up it pops, surely it’s time for grey waste, just for a change ....... Phil must surely have got the gist that there isn’t going to be total agreement whichever route is chosen...

Is there no self-control out there ...............???

I had an expensive (2k) 12volt LPG driven generator fitted to a Hymer 820 some years ago as I'm a "belt and bracers" sort, in my 2 years of ownership it only kicked in once! and I had no idea what the bloody noise was until I got up and looked around the van at 2 am, the next morning the sun rose ,panels kicked in and all was wonderful with the World, I'm now of the opinion that if your batteries are so bad they need a generator I'd invest in better or more batteries.

It is in the first post of a thread titled "Let's talk about generators" and in a section of the post listing ways of lowering the impact of your generator on other people.

I don't think that "massively oversized charger" is a fair description. Most motorhomes are fitted with a 20A charger that will be approx 20% of their battery capacity. For time efficient off-grid charging of motorhomes and narrow boats 25% - 30%, if you want me to hunt through the Internet and find authoritative references for you then I will.
I always was told 10% charge of battery total for lead acid, above this and the plates heat and buckle if on 24/7 high power charge, fast jump start from big garage chargers for a start up only.
