My 8 year old grandson Max, who lives in the Channel Islands, creased me up today! He phoned and the conversation went along these lines:
Max ”Baba, my Dad says you used to be a commercial negotiator”
Me “Yes that’s right“
Max “Well I need to negotiate something, can you help me please?”
Me “Of course, Max, what is it you want to negotiate and who with?”
Max “Well we‘ve got to go back to school in a couple of weeks and they told us last week that it was only for 2 days a week but now they are saying we have to go for 5 days a week”
Me “OK they’ve obviously sorted out the social distancing issue so what’s your problem?”
Max “Well I’m only prepared to go back for a maximum of 3 days a week so that I can go surfing the other 2 days. What can I tell the school to persuade them this is ok?”
At this point my very ancient negotiation skills completely faded away!! I just laughed my head off.
