Our 2020 trip to Dumfries & Galloway and our 2021 trip up the East coast to York and Edinburgh covered some of this area. It depends what you are interested in; industrial heritage, natural sights, walks, etc., but here are some highlights from our two trips, including some further North.

Freiston Shore has good views over the Wash and walking.

Bolingbroke Castle, Spilsby. 53.165047, 0.018126

Parked in Knavesmire Road for the day and walked into York.

The White Horse at Kilburn with some good walks including to Sutton Bank North York Moors National Park centre.

Campsite - The White Swan PH, 54.303939, -0.753209, Newton Upon Rawcliffe, nr Pickering, YO18 8QA. £10ppn Guy - 07989 413572 Melissa 07971 595237

Levisham Moor and the Hole of Horcum walk, Pickering. Car park 54.331464, -0.690321

Berwick Upon Tweed Castle Gate car park 55.772959 -2.003210, drive to the end and park under the walls where there are no time restrictions – but you can’t stay overnight.

Dunbar Castle and harbour

Killhope Mine, Nenthead Mine, Slitt Wood and West Rigg Geotrail - former lead and iron ore mining (Northumberland)

Brimham Rocks

Falling Foss waterfall

Cautley Spout, England's highest waterfall above ground

High Force waterfall, with the largest volume of water flowing an unbroken drop in England

Ribblehead viaduct, an impressive structure on the Settle-Carlisle Railway

Just driving across the moors is a delight

Some new Aires just opened in Lincolnshire, try Blue Lagoon on the way up to yorkshire.
old quarry site and watersports centre, pitches overlooking the water.
all on search for sites once they open

You’ve got to visit Ribblehead Viaduct. Loads of free parking or park at the Station Inn. We prefer Helwith Bridge Inn, just a few miles up the road. Can stay there more than one night. Obviously drinking or eating. You can’t go wrong in the Yorkshire Dales!

Also, try The Shambles at Huttof, between Ingoldmels and Skegness.
