I swapped out four of my snails for one prawn good traid. the fifth one I let him go. We went to a decent restaurant French style restaurant but they don’t have a clue about steak the butchers must cut them with hacksaws or chainsaws across the grain. I told them i thought I was eating camels hump. They were not impressed

We tried to find snails and frogs legs, never saw a one, not keen on the legs, but I like a snail or three, bit like oysters.

What you thought was a decent restaurant obviously wasn't . Next time find one where the French local people are eating and you wont be dissatisfied.

When we moved in here about 25 years ago, we were overrun with Slugs in the back garden.

I bought 2 Ducklings and set them free in the garden. In a couple of months the Slugs were all gone. I then passed them on to a relative who kept Hens and Ducks. No chemicals needed.

Wully, make your next steal a Aubrac steak, from the Aubrac cattle breed, you will not be disappointed, best steak I have even had was Aubrac, nice restaurant, Blesle, France

Tezza, they only get "hoppy" when you hit the right bit

That Diabetic regime seems to have worked a miracle.
Are snails allowed on a low carbon diet?
It says nothing in the Diabetes UK handbook?

Had them twice in Portugal last year and the locaI Continente was selling 2 different types, in Silves. I used the camperstop just outside Cordoba on the way back and the local square had a Caracoles emporium that sold them every which way. Bought them ready prepared in Caen Lidl some years back and have stayed on 2 snail farms in France with France Passion. I love 'em.
Frogs legs another story. They are intensively reared in the Far East in the main and poor froggy gets seperated from his legs with one chop, whilst still alive. Then thrown into a tub to die slowly. Not nice. I had them once by default in Zamora. They were on the bar with the other Tapas and were breaded so looked like Whitebait. They tasted OK but I felt bad for froggy after. It's a hideous business.

They have the reputation of being some of the best chefs cooks in the word and they would have to be going by what I’ve seen of the meat and how they sell it maybe I’m spoiled knowing decent Scottish beef lamb and the likes. Vegetables fruit are amazing cheese is to die for bread is absolutely amazing but ffs they don’t know a coos arse fae a coos turd. I think the meat from supermarkets here looks good till you try cook it it’s like the sole of an old boot grey dry and flavourless. My only saving grace I went to Marks and Spencer and bought 25 packets of decent smoked bacon. Running low now still have two weeks to go anyone want to send me a food parcel.

My catering manager/navigator would wholeheartedly agree with you on the meat situation.
Unusual cuts and names etc, that don't cook well or taste good. Usually pretty tough, so we tend not to be disappointed by simply avoiding beef in particular.
For a period of 6 or 7 weeks it is not an issue and there are plenty of alternative types of meat products.
We are often surprised as we travel, that all through France you are hard pushed to see much livestock of any kind in the fields. We sometimes wonder if this has a bearing on the quality.

They make good sausages though.
