Not a strange concept. Cheaper, lighter, better to store your lpg in one bottle. Just harder for some people to get their heads round. But you are right: it's personal choice.

Don't forget when you do refill, all the outlet taps on the bottles should be turned off.

I have been using an LPG tank for over a decade. I have never ever turned outlet taps off when filling. The regulator is easily able to cope with the variations of tank pressure. It has to be able to cope with a much wider range than that.

I also cannot understand the need to have a second gas bottle if you have one refillable. Be like fitting a second fuel tank just in case you run out.

'Do ya feel lucky, punk?' springs to mind. The complacent will run the risk, the cautious will top up as the opportunity arises; each to his/her own, as long as the chancers don't post 'Help, run out of lpg in [name of country]' messages. I'm in the '2 bottles, refill early & often' camp

I have never ever run out of LPG, no. There have been times when it looked possible, and I had to pay more per litre that I'd like. But never as much as gas in a 6kg bottle would have been.

The reason some places refuse motorhomes is the existence of morons who buy adapters to refill normal LPG bottles. These have no ullage valve and are spectacularly dangerous if overfilled.

Yes, it is possible to refill safely using them, but not unless you weigh the bottle as you fill.

Indeed with my 2 x 11kg tanks !
I also have never run out since fitting them in 2013.
With manual switch over...
I look to topup soon after switching.
Depending on availability and price.
I estimate the 2nd bottle may have sometimes been only half-full. (or half-empty).
That normally gives us 10 days !
Ps swapping the connection is no problem !!!
Ps2 I prefer to close the tank in use both when filling and travelling. A 2 second job.
Lpg is more dangerous than diesel. As @Geek has suggested with the dodgy practices of refilling calor from garage lpg pumps.

Oh, I have an electric kettle.
It runs on 230v AC.
That comes from the built-in generator.
The generator runs on LPG from the LPG tank.

I would agree. I had a 70l underslung tank on my last van, but on my current one no suitable location underneath for such a large tank. I also had a lot of corrosion issues with the last. However on this one I can snugly accommodate free from road salt corrosion two Alugas 11kg ones in the locker giving me 44L, less than the 56L of the last admittedly but so far adequate.
