Mattress toppers

We've been considering topper for a while now but as our current camper is only small would have to be easy to roll up as have put bed back to seating area each day are 1 inch any good or best go for 2 inch thick?

Personally, I would go for the 2 inch topper, it does make a big difference.

Comments awaited!! :)

We have a 2" topper from Dunelm, it wasn't that expensive. Main problem was I took it out of the cover to wash its such a nightmare trying to get it back we didn't bother.... it's under a mattress protector then sheet so not a problem.

Wife insists on as thick as possible, she`s not happy with anything less than 6 inch o_O

Toppers, I was only talking to Liz about them being an utter waste of money.

If you lay on anything else it will support you, a topper will not as it is too soft, you only have to look at it hard and it moves away from you, lay on it and it squashes so how on earth or anywhere else can it possibly be doing anyone any good unless you make the damned things.

I expect flak, but think about it in reality, it's snake oil for beds.

I haven't found this to be a problem myself.

But you can get toppers in either soft or firm grades.

How can it possibly work? if you touch it, it moves away easily so how can it support you? even the firm grades jsut move at a lesses degree, I have tried them all, still snake oil.

Anyway people have invested a lot of money in them so I'm wasting my time, emperor's new clothes n all that :D :D

Many people including me are very happy with them and find them comfortable. No 'emperors new clothes' involved!

Each to their own.

Aye, and quite right too.

I've had a back and hip problem for years now and used to suffer a lot more when trying to sleep. Memory foam helps to keep your spine straight. All the bony lumps and bumps will sink into it but the rest of you will still have support where the foam is not compressed. I can't tell you the difference it makes for me... I have a full Tempur mattress at home and wouldn't be without memory foam toppers in the van. Sometimes I have to go without - hotels and stuff - and I can honestly feel a huge difference in the amount of pain I feel.

In the van, especially for those who make up a bed from seat cushions, it's often about smoothing out those other lumps and bumps :D

You can get mattress toppers that aren’t memory foam. We got one many years ago when we bought bed and the main mattress from Ikea. You are supposed to roll it I believe but anything resembling that is bedding changes. It works well but probably not the kind you mean.

We have a topper like that, it worked well when we first got it, but it's part of the mattress so has sunk and cannot be revitalised, we have had the memory foams of all types and found them to be useless, made turning over a pain, and we just felt too hot all the time.

We tried a topper, but as I'm a Fat Lass, I found that the foam compresses too easily and you're left with no padding. We've now bought a made to measure pocket sprung mattress from Duvalay, chucked out the rubbish duvalite memory (??) foam one that was so uncomfortable, and gave the topper away to another near-side shaped bed owner as I had cut and altered it to fit our bed.

I agree, just squishes down to nothing when you lie on it.

can no longer sleep on a topper.....vertebrae probs.......now sleep on a very firm mattress............

however, before back probs....topper was very comfy

I have a 3/4 rock and roll bed in the back of a t4. It equates to a small double bed. I bought a 2 inch memory foam mattress a couple of year ago and came with a cream cover with a zip. It cost me around 40.00. I wish I'd gone for a 3 or maybe 4 inch now but i still get a good night's sleep!

Must admit I found mine next to useless in vans where I used a single bed as it was too wide and kept falling off, but in the Trooper it can't fall off as the bed is front to back and has wall one side and cupboards the other, a single topper fits nicely on the "small double" (whoever thought 3ft 9ins narrowing to 3ft 6ins was a double?)
I can't remember what sort of foam it is, it was a "value" range one from Dunelm, but it sorts out the lumps and bumps nicely and I sleep better than I do at home.
