The fraud has been perpetrated by the Westminster Government who have lied about the [lack of] extent of the problem, just like they lie about everything. It's a naked fraud designed to disenfranchise the lower echelons of UK society, many of whom won't have passports, photo driving licences etc and the Electoral Commission has said that the scale of the 'Voter Kit' exercise makes it unlikely that all eligible voters can be 'authorised'. Democracy Deniers, pure and simple.

If you do some research you will find that it does happen and is organised.

Postal voting has also been abused in the past.

I don't necessarily agree with how they have done it but there is a motive for doing something.

I *think* Graham, from a newspaper article some 2-3 weeks ago, that there were 6 cases spread across UK at the last General Election, but some of those cases could have been 'Voter Confusion' rather than an attempted fraud

There hasn't been a general election since 2019 and very limited local elections, so it's hardly surprising that no fraud has been identified. That said, even when fraud has been alleged, it hasn't been accepted as such AFAICT.

In 2019, Plymouth University registered nearly 1,000 of its students to vote in Plymouth "by mistake" and at least some of those students appear to have voted twice, once by proxy in Plymouth and once either in person or by post in their home constituency.

From the Electoral Commission report, several avenues for voter fraud have been identified and much has been done to attempt plugging the holes -- including requiring IDs to vote and checking NI and DoB against DWP records to attempt limit the number of 'fictitious voters'.
 
Nobody has mentioned fraudulent action by the local authorities ... yet. :)

Take for instance a Marginal Seat. A Ballot box from one Polling Station in an area where the majority would vote for one Party (ie rich or poor area) would be tempting for an Official to 'lose' if it favoured his political views. ;)

Can it happen? It is common in some countries.
