Stayed at a very quiet little Aire in the village yesterday,whilst walking the dogs we saw a couple of very black gentleman in the local woodland. At five am I was woken by someone climbing onto the roof via the motorcycle on the rear rack. They left quite quickly following my half naked appearance with my trusty baseball bat. So although a sleepy little village it still attracts unwanted attention....
 
We stayed there a couple of years back and whilst we saw migrants on the surrounding roads we had a very peaceful and quiet night on the aire.

One of the locals spoke very good English and said they knew they were about but none ever ventured into the village.
 
We use Hermanville as an overnight before catching the Ouistreham ferry.
 
Have stayed there regularly, three times this year, without any problem. The poor b*ggers are mostly near Ouistreham port and sleeping rough in the undergrowth along the canal up to Pegasus bridge
 
I do have to wonder where all the elderly men, women and children are from the war torn countries that they originate from. They are all young fit healthy men.
 
Most of the elderly men, women and children are likely to be in refugees camps nearer their point of origin. Its the young fit men, often without dependents, who are fit and resourceful enough to try to get here to have some sort of better life. They are in a desperate situation, that's not of their making.
 
We stayed at Hérouvillette on Friday night along with 6 other vans. We didn’t see anyone lurking around and we were out with the dog around midnight.
Thanks for the heads up though, we will keep an eye out next time we stop there.

They are probably not fit enough to travel or dead or injured.
I do hope you reported this incident to the Police or Marie though, after hiding your baseball bat.....
 
Of the thousands of migrants we`ve seen over the years you can probably count on one hand the amount of women and children included in them.
 
Last night we stopped at the aire opposite the Cite de Europe, around 5pm we heard a commotion and thought it was a domestic. Turned out that another van with an elderly couple as owners found a young migrant hiding under their cycle cover between the two bikes on the rear rack. After a lot of shouting and abuse from the stowaway he ran off into the waiting arms of the Operation Sentinele lads who explained the error of his ways. Apparently the migrant climbed aboard whilst the vans owners were shopping at the large Auchan in Calais.
 
Just shows how careful you have to be and check your van before returning home as I'm sure there would be a fine for smuggling if the migrant was caught on your van at the port
 
Got to be honest. Before moving off to the ferry back home I've always checked underneath the van for migrants. It's become part of my final walk round checklist.

I was in a grocers this morning and saw a caravan go past with his locker door open. He'll wish he'd done a final check when he arrives at his destination with an empty locker.

I was at Cite Europe ,about 10 days ago , and had two attempted stowaways , was sat inside watching telly when the front door opened and then shut , I got up and saw that the guy was crouching in the door footwell ! He was asked to leave in an anglo saxon fashion :)
Then a hour or so later heard a noise outside , went out to check the lockers , all OK the guy had climbed under the cover on the scooter on the rear rack , he was assisted in leaving quickly . That was middle of a sunny day right in the middle of the car park .
