I understand what you are saying but I don't agree with the "make you feel like a criminal" bit. If I want to move money between accounts or banks, or spend in cash then I will do so and I don't feel like a criminal in the slightest for doing so no matter what checks are put in place for someone else to prove its legitimacy.

Interestingly, in the natural habitat of the banking world (i.e. Switzerland) the preference there is to use cash rather than electronic methods even for major purchases - and your £30,000 Motorhome Sale in Swizerland could be transacted by handing over just 36 bank notes.

I recently inherited a bit of cash. I put it in one bank account ( suspicious looks from cashier “ where did you get all this from?” )
Next, transferring between accounts, after the second transfer, the third was held up. I rang the original bank, they said the transfer was on hold while the receiving bank investigated it (??)
I had to send proof of where and how I got the money.
I don’t use those banks now, we are in the French banking system where they respect you as a customer and not assume you are up to no good.

Not ever having been a criminal, I wouldn’t know how it actually feels, but feeling like the bank didn’t trust me or were suspicious of my actions somehow, made me feel like I was doing something wrong. If that’s how it feels to feel like a criminal, then yes I did, otherwise I wouldn’t have written that the government makes you feel like a criminal.......

Do you get higher interest ?

No, unfortunately. But the bank staff are polite and very helpful.
