As you say you a lot of dosh per KWH
A decent frame generator would do apart from weight and transportation issues.
Although I have toyed with various ideas we do not need so stick with the now 2 batteries (AGM 2x 100AH) and sometimes use EHU in September.
The OP seems set on off-grid in winter and he seems to need guaranteed power to work so a generator needed
