Motorhome Swaps

Whilst at the Henley-in-Arden Rally I was talking to one of our members UFO, he was telling me about his motorhome swap adventures.
For those that have not heard of motorhome swaps, this is where you swap motorhomes with someone in another country for a holiday instead of renting or shipping your motorhome. We could have a motorhome swap section on the website.

What do you think?
Would you do a swap?

It's not for me Phil. However, it would probably work for many on the forum.

Short term insurance can work out expensive though.

I wouldn’t personally, but it would be great for those who would like to. Maybe if the insurance were arranged through the organiser of a scheme it would not be such a problem.

Presumably the best way would be to have them added as a named driver but this could have implications for loss of no claims bonus and excess but this could be covered by a deposit.
Sounds interesting!!

I don't think you can do that in the UK.

It's not something I would do as the UK roads are frequently narrow, but I'm certain that it would appeal to a few, especially if it opened the possibility of travel in Australasia or the States.

As long as your not charging for hire I would have thought , however uve probably had much more experience of MH insurance than novice me.
Perhaps this is something that we or one of the big clubs should by taking up with a sympathetic insurer.
Sure there is probably a scheme supporter out there somewhere, having worked a lifetime in insurance and on an insurance pension!!!!

We thought about it a couple of years ago, but then got one dog, then a new new van and another dog. So not for us.

When I looked at it ... there are a couple of websites which you pay a small fee to which then gives you access to the owners to do your own organisation with. Most of the vans seemed pretty old, for obvious reasons. We also briefly considered hiring our van out before we lived aboard.

I've done something similar.
Some years ago I swapped a holiday home in Germany together with a German car for something similar in the UAE for a month or so. It worked very well indeed for both parties.
But I wouldn't do the same with my Moho. It's full of too many bits and pieces that need love and attention if they're to work and not break.

Not for me but if folks want it its a good way to get somewhere different without spending a lot of time driving

No from us too, We have let the daughter use it once (we drove it to destination at that), and that was bad enough. Strangers? No way.
