Speedos are allowed to over-read but not under-read, so should always say a higher speed than the sat nav.

I find my satnav reads lower speed than dash speedo, so I tend use satnav as my guide for speed.

I use the sat nav, obviously when I got caught, I was probaly concentrating on the road and other cars rather than the sat nav.
It was in a built up area, as in UK these cameras are placed in areas where it's easy to creep over the limit.
As we all know that's all part of the plan, how else can they catch people.
I've done really well considering the amount of miles I've driven abroad.
 
There are more rules than you think . I did not know about the speed stickers that have to be displayed on vans over 3500 kg

5. Speed limits
Campervans and motorhomes lighter than 3500 kg
In built-up areas, the speed limit is 50 km/h (30 mph). Outside built-up areas it is 80 km/h (50 mph), except on two-lane roads with no central lines. The speed limit on these roads is 90 km/h (55 mph). If you find yourself on a dual carriageway, the speed limit is 110 km/h (70 mph). The speed limit for campervans and motorhomes on French motorways is 130 km/h (80 mph). There are two situations in which the speed limit is reduced on these roads.

  • Rain or other precipitation that affects your visibility or makes road use challenging
  • You have held your driving licence for less than three years
The speed limit is then 80 km/h (50 mph) on 90 km/h (55 mph) roads and 100 km/h (60 mph) on 110 km/h (70 mph) roads. And for 130 km/h (80 mph) roads, it is reduced to 110 km/h (70 mph).

Campervans and motorhomes heavier than 3500 kg

In built-up areas, the same 50 km/h (30 mph) limit applies. But outside built-up areas, the speed limit is always 80 km/h (50 mph). The speed limit on dual carriageways is 100 km/h (60 mph) and on motorways it is 110 km/h (70 mph). Stickers with 80 (50 mph), 100 (60 mph) and 110 (70 mph) are required on the rear of campervans and motorhomes heavier than 3500 kg. These can be bought from many petrol stations in France.
 
my speedo always 9% below the sat nav , phil said it was because the converter (hymer) always puts the smaller 15” wheels on the van, well i have put 16” wheels on as part of weight upgrade and on the little mileage i have done in lockdown find that i’m only 1-2% out now ,

So hopefully changing the wheels will solve the problems with the speed cameras.
May be I should look into getting some new wheels aswell. 😂🤣😂🤣
 
Sat nav or gps derived speed is accurate on level ground but don’t rely on it going up or down hills, it will be wrong.

Hi what is the advice for speeding ticket from abroad ?
 
IIRC there is no need for UK reg vehicles to display speed stickers on rear in EU etc , as they are not req in UK and would be wrong anyway as we use mph .

It would appear I exceeded the speed limit somewhere near Chartes by 6km/h and for my digression they have relieved me of €45.
This is not a complaint, it is the first time this has happened and I am just treating it as a tax, which our French neighbours need to keep their road suitable for us to get to Portugal as quickly as we can.
Hopefully we can get back there soon, hopefully I won't need to pay any more of these taxes, when we are next there.

Had two of these on the mat at home while still away apparently they altered some limits from 90 to 80 and were slow updating signs was not worth arguing so paid
