Need stopover suggestions - Cambridge to Alnwick late Jan

We're heading from Cambridge towards the Alnwick area in a couple of weeks. We'll stay in a cottage when we're there (we think - though nothing yet booked), but we're thinking of taking the van so that we can take a nice slow drive there and back. We're happy to stopover on a wild stop or on a campsite. W also CCC members, so will look on their website. Do any of you have have any suggestions for quiet, pretty, safe spots?

Or try Blue bank just outside Whitby or the Sealife Center Scarborough there is a pub across the road 100yds away that does some very reasonable pub grub.

Both likely to be very cold

The WC in Sleights (again near Whitby) was due for refurbishment June 2017 after vandalism and simply old age
