Honeymooned in Turkey in 1989.
Drove around in a hire car for two weeks. Beautiful country...hot as hell in August. People were so friendly and trusting. One family gave us their house for the night and they slept in their mum's house!
Met a Turkish cafe owner in Hackney on Sunday. She told me she met an American woman who missed her flight. Offered to let her stay in her house overnight. American burst into tears of gratitude. Turkish woman said "that's just what we do."
I remember the roads being good and quiet. But that was a lifetime ago!
