Now here’s a stunning place to visit for you lucky people who will be going to Orkney this summer.

This is Rackwick Bay on Hoy. It is accessed via the Lyness ferry from Houton on the mainland and will captivate you, so be prepared to spend more time than planned.

Overnights are permitted on the community car park not too far away and a couple of hours walk will take you to a point overlooking the Old Man Of Hoy. The WW2 museum at Lyness has been refurbished recently and has a cafe with limited opening.

So if you want to experience a totally different type of island from the rest of Orkney put a couple of days aside for a trip to Hoy. You will not be disappointed.

Looks lovely for a long distance (from Middle England) holiday, away from the crowds on the 500. Midsummer 24hrs of daylight presumably. 630 miles each way for me.
Still, it's probably cheaper than a cruise . . . . It's the same latitude as Stavanger where we were a few weeks ago. Less oil than Stavanger, obviously. Sticking to the topic - not - did you know that Norway is the second richest country in the world? By GDP every Norwegian is a millionaire as soon as they are born.

Another place to visit whilst on Hoy. You will probably be astounded at the effect the story of poor Betty Corrigall will almost certainly have on you.

Cheers
