Owd Sayings

One of the things that my Mum would say to my siblings & myself, if we came home crying when playing out, asking why we are crying, us saying such & such had hit us, she would say they didn't hit you hard enough

She would also say if you don't stop crying, I'll give you something to cry for

Sh..ing in one hand and pi..ing in the other, was what was quoted to me after "You know what thought did"

I remember most of them, the one about Bills mother is does I believe come from the Derbyshire Area. My mum once said about her brother in law when he died that he was a very nice man but as tight as a duck's ar$$$e, and even though he was dead the truth was still the truth.

thats a saying my father would use.....tight as a ducks.......a...s.... and thats water tight.

Not capped, is an odd one, from Yorkshire.

As anybody heard the saying "Mamby Pamby"
I have just been to my sister's, during conversation she mentioned that she had a dinner party last night, I asked who went she said in her list that her daughter Rachel with her new partner, after asking after him, she said he was a bit mamby pamby
I remember using that saying a lot while growing up

Loving all these some I had forgotten about especially some of them on this page!..haha

My School teacher once said to me , I will knock that smile off your face
When my friend & I was kids we were in front of the Police Sargent in the town hall being reprimanded and I started smirking. my mum and friends dad were sat at the back of the room and he said the same I WILL KNOCK THAT SMILE OFF YOU FACE he wouldn't get away with it these days

It's a wonder we all grew up to be such well rounded adults.

Who could forget, Q What's for dinner, A, a cabbage sandwich and a tin o' milk.
Or after being told something you didn't understand, to answer, "We had one of those, but the dog bit it, and the wheel fell off."

Mum's catch all was "erum". A pause that made you realise, this time you really were in trouble.

Maybe just a variation but I know that as nanby Pamby.

Could mean, Playing for the other team! Just saying!

What about, " Stand still while I hit you." Always a favourite. By the time we stopped laughing, she'd forgotten what she wanted to hit us for.

I miss that lady everyday. You only ever get one. Mine? The best.
