Power lead

Well I have managed to do it, drove the motorhome of my drive and heard a loud bang, then it dawned on me immediately, I had forgotten to uncouple the power lead and ripped the inner socket if the motorhome, luckily no damage and there was enough loose wiring to rewire the socket. I wonder how many others can hold there hands up to doing this, I have told the wife to make a sign now and hang it on the drivers sun visor to remind me to make sure it is uncoupled in future.

Nearly done it a couple of times, but been lucky that I checked my wing mirror and realised before it was too late.

You need some of my "don't forget" tags! :)

I religiously walk the van before driving off, and have saved a couple of 'oops' moments doing that. :)

Brilliant Idea, I used to have a check list of things to do on my boat before leaving the marina, never once did I set off with the shore power lead still on, although the crew ( my Wife) once forgot to tie the dingy to our boat when she had lowered it from the davits, and unclipped it, it just floated off, I had anchored in 10 metres of water so couldn't chase after it immediately as had to raise the anchor, good job it was an offshore wind and a secluded spot, as the air got a bit blue.

I always check both my mirrors before setting off even if only on the drive.

I would see a bloody great orange cable sticking out of the side of the motohome if i`d left it plugged in.

Cock up no 2 now, on washing the motorhome the other day I noticed a graze marks on the nearside rear corner, about 7ft high. I used some T cut and got some black marks off, but the plastic was still grazed. I put two and two together and presumed that perhaps it had been caught while parked by a high sided vehicle somewhere, it wasn't me honestly.9

Well low and behold when leaving my drive earlier today the wife suddenly shouts stop, she said you have caught the back of the motorhome on one of the black metal uprights that supports the carport tbat it sits under. I park it up very close to the carport side so that no one could get down the nearside of it, but unfortunately due to the 2.4 metre overhang the rear of the vehicle moves over to the carport side with the slightest bit of steering to the right. I would never make a truck driver, jobs on the to do list now, put pipe lagging on the poles that hold the carport up and don't park as close to it in future and remember to use the mirrors.

If I ever get chance to come to a meet, make sure you don't park to close to me, you have been warned, I'm a disaster on wheels lol. The wife has threatened to stick some L plates on it to warn others.

Never done the forgotten hookup trick, mainly because we very rarely hookup at home or on a Site.

What I have almost done a couple of times is to forget about the tyre covers I fit when the van is on our driveway. I have to reverse a little to ease the front wheels off the chocks. Luckily I have remembered before any damage can be done.

I've ripped my hookup lead out at home on a number of occasions! (I don't tend to hookup so just forget about it)
fortunately the way I fitted the plug, all that happens is the wires rip out the socket and I just remake it (after turning the supply off - I remember THAT bit! :D )

Hence why I did the tags as I knew I am not the only forgettful one around ;)

Once drove off with the wheel clamp on ,lots of noise had to hacksaw it off .it came off that easy no point in replacing .

Thankfully, not yet driven away with EHU attached, but there is still time.
I have scratched (luckily) the front bumper by driving too close to our drive wall and bent the end cap on the awning due to a tree right next to our drive entrance on the public footpath.
The council will not remove the tree, even though its roots are pushing up the drive and causing the gate post to lean.
I cut the branches off in the area where the awning was caught.
The bent end cap was put back into shape (ish) with some gentle heat from a heat gun and pushing against the inside of the cap.
Driven away a few times with the main Heki roof open though, it was spotted by some kind members on one of the meets, before we had damaged it on the trees. :)

Drove off KOA site in hired Moho in Grand Canyon USA, 3 miles down road I said to my mate Rob "did you disconnect the power cable" , "No" he said, "SH*T" I said. We should have been towing a power tower, half the camp fencing and a gate but fortunately not just 40 foot of cable trailing up the road. Plastic cover a bit worn and pins bent a bit but worked fine when straightened, thankfully.
Unfortunately we couldn't straighten the side of the Moho when we scraped it on a wall descending into Yosemite Nat Park. Thank God for insurance.
