Purposeless Products

A strange but true fact for you- a collector of neck ties is called a grabatologist.

That looked to me to be so unlikely that I Binged, teejay. It is!
I'm beginning to think that we need a useless facts thread. My kids are always telling me that I'm stuffed full of them. And I always retort that it's a quality that comes with maturing.

I found another useless one in my drawer today while looking for the nutcrackers it's a teabag squeezer.

Bill will be hoping that you didn't find them, Annie.

Your post has just reminded me of another contraption my Mum had, Annie. It was a perforated metal ball that separated on a hinge into two hollow hemispheres. The idea was that you'd put tea leaves in it, close it and infuse in a cup. Daft idea. What's wrong with a teapot or teabags?
Purposeless Product or what?

Not a bad idea- a useless facts thread- I like it -go for it Colin! There are hundreds of us on here stuffed full of nonsense man-we read it daily-some good, some bad and some downright ridiculous! The thread will remain active for a while I feel.

Some people do not like teabags - too much dust rather than proper leaves. The perforated ball, or the perforated double 'spoons' held together make it easier to dispose of athe tealeaves, also can be used in a mug for one.

image.jpegimage.jpeg Ah maybe it's not a teabag squeezer maybe it's a tea infuser it's sprung loaded so I had to cellotape it open so you can see what it looks like, any ideas answers on a postcard to Colin

That was the type of thing I was meaning when I said 'double spoons'

I do mine the 'German' way, Annie. Boil the water, prick the rounded bum end of the egg, in the water for a simmer for 6 to 7 minutes depending on size. Everyone a winner!
On the other hand I do have an (unused these days) egg timer.

I guess that there are Apps out there for this tricky task too?

Don't get me started on APPS being useless products but instead of clogging a kitchen drawer they clog up your iPad and iPhone ( other makes of phones are available out there with an array of useless APPS).

the other is screws and nails the only difference is the ridges on screws stop them falling out the all go in the same way quick tap with hammer and fixed just wondered why they got different head star and slot as they still go in the same way another useless invention

Hipster keep taking the Meds chick.?

I have had an assortment of egg poaching devices, from little pans to silicone cups, some have found their way into the van with the intention of poaching instead of frying ... I am incapable of poaching an egg straight into a pan of boiling water. The gadgets NEVER work, mess ensues, water enters, egg white sticks everywhere, and they go to the back of the cupboard. Back to the frying pan again.

Have you thought about poaching them in their shells much easier and very little mess :Wink_Emoji:

I have just joined, yet you have posted over 1,000 times, is it a case of too much to say, or too much time? nice to see so many still about.

I'm a bit short of time at the moment, teejay, but will bear this in mind and have a go in due course - if I'm not beaten to it!

You've convinced me, Geoff. NOT a Purposeless Product!

Correction. To Annie.

Thanks for the photos, Annie. I'm sure my Mum had a teabag squeezer. It was like a pair of tweezers with huge, flat, perforated 'paddles' at the working end. So what's wrong with a spoon?

As has been noted before, you have an 'interesting' mind, Barrie. One that made me grin so thanks!

BTW does anyone remember the Philips crosshead screw design before we had Posidrive? Damn things were hopeless - the driver never gripped the screw and the screws were soft so the 'cross' depression rounded off. A Purposeless Product or what?
