There are several keyboards available on PCs depending on which language you wish to type for, teejay. I'm sitting here using the keyboard on a Windows phone and if one 'long presses' on a character then the other options pop up for that key.
For example if I 'long press' on the 'e' key I get the options of e,3,é,ê,è,ë. If I long press on the 'o' key I get the options of o,ø,ò,ó,ö,ô.œ,9.
A very useful key for me is the '0' key because that gives the option of 0,° which saves me having to use 'deg'.
We (that is, I!) now need an expert to explain how the sets of alternative characters can be easily called up on a conventional PC keyboard!
