It's used in Spanish towns together with possibly hundreds of identical items. This one is the first I've ever seen in store.

Absolutely spot on, Chris! I first came across them in the street in Denia and had no idea what they were for but there were hundreds of young males wandering up the street between them. So I joined in. I was sauntering along slightly faster than the crowd and eventually found myself pretty much at the front and about 15 metres from a bull. Obviously I turned and slid between the bars to safety under one of these Most Purposeful Products.
The young guys out to impress the young girls really leave it late to get out of the way. At street level it's amazing just how many young men (plus me) one of these can hold.
I saw guys cut but not seriously injured. Bløødy terrifying.
