Just read this elsewhere, maybe useful to someone.
Reims has a scheme whereby anyone, regardless of the vehicle, can register with the town and access the ZFE even if they're in a vehicle which isn't exempt, and which doesn't qualify for a suitable Crit'Air vignette. You can choose up to 52 days a year, and when you sign up for a given day online you get a receipt to download which you can show if you get stopped for a check.
