You didn’t happen to see Madame Bovary while you were there? She lives in a nearby village with her dull doctor husband and goes to Rouen quite frequently to meet her lover Leon.

And Madame Bovary had to maintain a pretence to her husband; so she was lyin' about lying with Leon her lion, but the dull doctor had the last laugh by slipping her a Mickey Finn that prevented her from achieving full pleasure from her liaison dangereux. So the ending came as a bit of an anticlimax ... Or was that just the first draft I was reading? :unsure:
