Satellite in mh

We have an SR Mecatronic system, which I assume yours is. For the dish to lock onto a satellite, the controller needs to work and tell the dish where to look, or recognise a signal. Make sure the controller is on when the dish is searching and the cable from the dish is connected to it.
Can you see the model number of the controller and, apart from the Maxview decoder, is anything else attached to the controller / dish?

I think the problem is that who ever had the mh before us cobbled extra boxes to the system to use abroad. Think I need someone to take it back to basic and fit new decoder box

It’s more likely to be the satellite controller. Most of the Mecatronic controllers are designed to search for country specific satellites. Ours was set up to find Astra 19 ( French van, French satellite) I had to buy the digital controller add on that gives me access to 15 satellites, including Astra 28 ( Freesat)
That said, even if it is searching for a foreign satellite, it should be able to lock on to it, you may not get a picture though. If the satellite they were searching for was the French one, you would also need the correct decoder which will have a viewing card in it. (Possibly for TNT)
If it isn’t the controller at fault, then it could be the dish, the LNB or cables between them that is faulty. It’s not likely to be the decoder, that just decodes the signal once the satellite is locked on to.
Do you know which country they were trying to get satellite reception for?

Just to add to the above, how long did you leave the dish searching? It could take quite a few swivels before it finds the last used satellite, especially if the van has moved some distance since the tv was last used.

I took mh back to storage wich is in an open space. Did a sat search to astra 28e the dish went round for ages then shut down need to get it looked at as its beyond me

When you say Astra 28e, that is the position of the satellite, which, in this case is Astra 2, which has all the usual uk tv channels.
At a guess, what you have described, could well be that your system needs an update. Over the years, this is periodically needed, because of transponder changes, on the satellite itself. Only self seeking systems are affected by this. Fixed domestic dishes are permanently set to Astra 2, so don't need to find it, each time.
My advice would be to contact a dealer that specialises in your make of satellite system.

Try Google for a instructions manual for specific dish. I know on mine the “sky box” has to be turned off until dish controller has locked onto satellite otherwise it goes round and round then stows.

Funnily enough I have today been testing my SR mechatronic ASR800 plus system which I bought for peanuts from Road Pro a couple of years ago but have only just got around to installing it.

The motors that operate it are silent and extremely smooth unlike the Camos system I have in my other van that sounds like a flock of voltures are on the roof when it seeks out a target!

here is a manual which should do for the porpoise of getting things working I have the digital display which is really handyl

forget any tv decoder boxes for now just make sure the mechatronic satellite controller has a healthy lnb input from the dish, if it’s a really old system and isn’t able to lock on to anything then assuming the lnb and coax is ok then the controller may need a firmware update Roadpro can do that.

Your TV will need to be able to have freesat on it though unless you have a freesat box.

As suggested see if you have a choice of satellites to choose from as you'll need the one that covers where you are.

failing that we had the bit at the end of the arm go faulty on us on a previous motorhome so that all it did was spin. Not sure what that bit is called but someone will know.:)
It’s called an LNB if that helps

Sitting here in Holland with TV on with all channel's we have the maxi view mini dome the small one 5 years old it’s worked flawlessly in every place we have visited. The guy next door from England with a massive 80cm dish can’t get it up😜 it’s too windy over 20 kph it goes all floppy.
