so they have gone back to the old ways.........public water fountains, Just need them to reinstate public toilets now.

Scotland is doing better than the National Trust. Went walking with a friend at a National Trust property in Devon and she wanted to take a bottle of water with her. She was told the only option was glass as the National Trust has moved away from plastic. Our thoughts were that this is a lot more in unenvironmentally friendly, if she were to drop it and smash it out in the countryside. Would be much better to sell a plastic reusable containers and then offer free water.

Indeed. Our LA (Borders) put charges on the toilets, then discovered they were losing money and people were "cheating" - holding the door open for others to come in without paying!! Imagine.

The Victorians - or was it the Edwardians - were keen on big fountains and also put in a lot of drinking water fountains in towns and cities, I remember using them as a kid, but they all seem to have disappeared now.
