When we went to France last year I joined a Motorhomer France newsletter and read this today.

SNOW CHAINS MANDATORY

A new law is to make snow tyres or snow chains compulsory in mountain areas of France from 1st November until 31st March next year. Drivers of vehicles without snow tyres/ chains who are involved in a snow related accident or traffic jam will be liable to a 135€ fine. The law will apply in up to 48 departments of France that are in these designated mountain areas.

It’s already true just the other side of the border, I was in Italy last week and there were plenty of signs telling that tyres needed to be changed 14th October until April .

the motorhome superstore Camping Magenta just outside Milan has row after row of winter tyres on wheels ready to be fitted. They were very good prices too. F4E35301-570A-404B-BB51-3FF12C863AA8.jpeg

We were advised to get two sets of snow chains, as downhill the back end of motorhomes can swing out. Heavy, but...

The same thing is applicable in Germany, not sure of the changeover dates though

German drivers have a general rule of “von O bis O” which means snow tyres should be put on in October and remain on until Ostern (Easter). We use 'All-Year' tyres though, marked by the 3 peak mountain and snowflake.
