Solar panel disconnection

I am about to change over a leisure battery. I have read that the solar panel should be covered. Why? Isn't disconnecting the battery the same as disconnecting the panel from the controller or disconnecting the battery from the controller?

Disconnect or isolate the solar panels from the controller, change batteries, give the controller a minute or two to set itself up again and then reconnect the panels to the controller. No need to cover the panels.

depends on the controller. A victron MPPT for example doesn't care and can actually be used without a battery connected at all (the LOAD circuit is supplied and whatever is connected gets direct power from the panel via the controller).
