Called in a local Specsavers last week for some hearing aid batteries and the young lady said I should have a hearing reassessment done, ok I said , she made me an appointment for it at my own Doctors surgery and I had it done today Thursday 19th NOV, The Audio specialist was from Specsavers, very skilled lady [ I did not know this service was available at my Doctors surgery ] great experience, I came away with 2 of the latest hearing Aid models , lot of batteries and spare set of tubes and was allowed to keep my existing hearing aids too as spares , great service free of charge from the NHS , I was told that if someone went to any hearing specialist with a large wodge of money and asked for the best hearing aids possible, they would get them BUT they would have the same chip and technology as my new ones I received today , my new Aids are great , I thought my old ones we good but these new ones offer so much more clarity in sound and appearance. any one with hearing problems can get the same service as I did today on the NHS .

Yes
I had similar 2 years ago.
All done at the "Specsavers shop" but fully NHS
As posted F.O.C. unless you are willing to pay more.
Despite my negative post on UK..
The NHS is great. Just have to hope it does not get "Trumped".
I suspect tax rises ahead anyway I just hope they included more for the NHS.

I've been getting free NHS hearing aids since I was 48. Now 60 and on my fourth set via Scrivens/NHS. Excellent service provided via the local GP surgery.

Seems to be based on need rather than age.
In conversation with the Audiologist at my appointment she told me that our local Hospital and Scrivens had dropped out of the audio scheme and only Specsavers now run it throughout Uk apparently the contract payment was not high enough for the NHS or Scrivens so Specsavers have the cart blanch over all audio ? your time scale is much the same as mine, this is my third set of hearing aids from age 50 and now I am 76, where have the years gone, remember the great lumps that fitted into your ears originally made of resin, so much better these days .

Over what vintage is that eligibility!!!!
NO age limit, if you need Hearing Aids they are available. Just go into Specsavers Audio shops, they make all the arrangements ie Doctors referral [ you do not need to see your Doctor ], it is just a paper exercise, etc on line as they are now sole suppliers to NHS they tell me.
