Steering locks - are they any good?

Other than joyriding would any tealeaf bother with a 20 year old van that is parked next to a brand new shiny one that says it is expensive?
can't imagine there is much "joy" in tearing around in a Ducato van, old OR new!

If you're in a Ducato and tearing around, it's called work, not joy, or you're just an idiot whose only driving pleasure is doing it like a Tw@

I use a cheapo steering wheel lock AND a seat belt to steering wheel lock. I know they can easily be removed if you have the tools but doing so does make a noise and at the end of the day all I am trying to do is persuade the thief to pinch someone else's van that hasnt got any security devices.

The best wheel antitheft prototype I saw was an explosive charge that would go off if the wheel was forced to break the lock. Like the bag right in your face. The ignition key cut off the device..

You also had the thief as well as your van - albeit a bit messy :)

Our first van an Autohomes Explorer (great little van) had a simple switch out of sight that cut the power to the engine.
