storage box

jan has never liked the bike rack festooned with watering cans rolled up flooring etc so we decided to get a storage box , i wanted one a bit bigger than the standard chest so asked on wc if anyone knew someone making bespoke ones robert replied saying he had recently removed one from his hymer looked ideal so arranged to pick it up, i hired a transit went to fetch it and it was so big it wouldn’t fit inside the van until i removed the boxing around the wheel arch size was 1800w x1500h x600 deep ,
once i got it home i decided to cut the 300m sump of the bottom because that looked easy after i had removed it i decided it went so well that i would take 100 m out of the depth , of course as the. box was really well made with shamfered edges on the front folded corners and a solid frame around the double doors i could only clamp angle iron where i wanted it to bend and pull a radius bend instead of a fold but i was reasonably happy with the result , the resulting box is still a good size but is now 1800x1200x500 a reduction from 8.1cubic mts to 4.2 ,
the box was originally designed to fit on the hymer slide out bike rack so i made some hangers out of angle iron and fitted an aluminium staging i had to that , to stop it bouncing going down the rd i had a frame made to use the old cycle rack fittings and have bolted the top to that, and also fitted a trailer board on there still got to fit the number plate, it really isn’t as near to the ground as it looks my drive has a good slope lol.
after i had pulled the bends i set in the corners with a hammer and bolster effective but did scratch up the paintwork which was hymer grey, a quick quote for a respray was £250 & would need it for a week so i got 5sq mts of vinyl wrap of e bay for £20 and have covered it in that not completely happy but looks ok from 3mts away good enough to go & try the box and see how it works out can always do that later,E1707AE2-1B01-4023-A919-66D34A364932.jpeg094E93A0-2A82-467F-93FC-0AB491E3B484.jpeg

Proper Job. If it pleases Jan then double points you must be a winner.

Catch up with you in the sun, when I can inspect it closely not that it will be nothing but perfect.
Ps can you get your stick inside it?

now it’s all complete and secure i deliberately overloaded it even putting a 56llb weight in there and an old 110 leisure battery almost double the weight i intend to carry went on a 30 mile round trip shopping and filling up i’m pleased to say not a noticeable alteration in handling , confident i’ll survive white van man and a crosswind now,

I didn't realise the white van man crosswind was that dangerous, is it something to do with the food served out of those vans at the side of the road?
