Some of the best sunsets we have seen were at the lay-by overlooking Gruinard Island some 45 years ago then called Anthrax Island due to the wartime experiments carried out there. At that time you could drive a week in the Highlands and never see another motor caravan each time we stopped in a village or town people would come to look at this wee house on wheels. Another age altogether.
Back to Gruinard parked on our own no noise the setting sun around midnight magical views we stayed here many times over the years one year I watched deer I thought drinking sea water but then realised it was where the river ran into the sea. I may have some old photos somewhere ( before the digital age ) Around this time we walked on most of the fantastic beeches in the Highlands just us and our dogs most times with no one in sight try that now.
