The Beer Thread

I have six Leffe Rituels left now out of the stash I managed to liberate Sandra and Albert of. Do I eek em out, save them for Christmas Day or just neck em this afternoon instead of doing my Christmas tasks? Decisions, decisions. Its officially the Christmas Holidays now so why not? However the last option will probably see me eating my Christmas Dinner in the coal shed.

The Red Lion in Cricklade near where I live still sell real ales by the 1/3 on a tray of three. They normally have around 8 or so to choose from and let you sample for free too.

You lucky man Graham. There are some fantastic pubs all around there.

There was a strange pub at Ampney St Peter called The Red Lion that didn't have a bar. The elderly owners had turned a church pew around and served perfect ales across the top of it. Their glasses were non to clean as they didn't have running water in the room and simply sloshed them around in a plastic bowl. Decent farming folk drank there, everyone knew each other and their business, and my father-in-law and I often stopped there on our way home from Ciren. It's closed now.

It is indeed closed.

It recently had PP refused to turn it into a private house as the council thought it should continue as a community pub...even though it has been shut for 3 years! It is on a very dangerous bend in the road where there have been fatalities.

At the Red Lion I tend to have the Butcombe Original as I find their own ales a little too hoppy for my taste.

There are more bitters on but only part of the list is showing for some reason. There are usually 8-10 bitters on at any one time.

Don't drink them all, before we get back.

I object to paying the best part of a fiver for a chilled, pint of standard bitter.
Taylors landlord goes down well and Draught Bombardier is ok, in that 5 minutes before having warmed up enough and having gone flat.

Currently enjoying Portuguese black beer.. Cerveja Preta , mixed with their pils type cerveja branca.

at 6 % and 1.50€ per litre.. I'm saving a fortune.
The Spanish do a black beer,too.. I laugh at San Miguel!

Ps..
When back in Blighty, I'm quite content to fire down the odd ½ gallon of Ruddles bitter,in Weatherspoons.

Got to be worth a tenner, if only for the superior taste and flavour................ Nowy-obraz.jpg

Where do you get those Kegs from and do you not need a machine to use them? The machine for the Leffe Kegs is £250! It was on my Christmas list but I just bet it doesnt turn up. :frown:

On sale at most supermarkets. 5 litres. Self contained CO2 filled-has an adjustable gas valve atop as the level diminishes(which is quite quickly at xmas!) Very nifty don't you know! For £250 i'd want a steering wheel on it! Hope Santa is feeling benevolent to you!

ps. Do you think you might have a case of E minor rather than E bola? I'd rather have a case of lager major myself!

I Think Im well stocked for Christmas now but I seem to remember that was quite a nice refreshing beer. Certainly better than the stuff they try to pass of here as Stella or Kronenbourg. Will see if I Can track one down (Assuming it will fit in the fridge)

"We're gonna need a bigger fridge!" Very drinkable considering it lives in a tin can-only 5% but hey ho that's what chasers are for init? Bottles are much tastier again imo. Merry Fridge-I mean Christmas!!

I may have posted this already but this is what I wanted for Christmas https://www.beerhawk.co.uk/perfectdraft-leffe-rituel-9-6l-keg

But you need this as well. https://www.beerhawk.co.uk/perfectdraft-keg-machine

So the six bottles I have left will have to do I guess. I have about as much chance of getting one of those machines as I have of winning the next X Factor. I reckon someone will buy me the Keg though just so they can then have a laugh at me trying to get at the contents without the machine.
