Sky news put this image up to show today's queues for the ferry at Dover. I added the yellow highlight on every Motorhome. I didn't include Campervans or Caravans either.

Kinda makes you feel all warm inside.

Always find it odd that people differentiate between motorhomes and campervans . Not just the OP quite a few do .

How many plan to come back ?
The beer is expensive.
The weather is erratic.
. Those heading for the far south, will find it hot and crowded.
Do try to avoid the tourist hotspots.
If in Portugal, there's an extensive network of Aires available.
Look at www.campingcars portugal..PT
You'll be in the real interesting parts and meet local motorhomers, who love the Brits..
Similar in Spain.
Park for night is virtually for French MH. Owners at this time of year.
They are like cheese and egg sandwiches..
They block the smooth running of the system.
Have fun and adventures.

French use correct name for us all who have vehicles we can live and sleep in. “Camping Cars”.

if you are old timers like us YOU know to only go south of France / Spain/Portugal in winter .
the tunnel is a bit dearer but a lot quicker as they & don't seam to have tailbacks problem's because its owned by GETLINK in Paris & when exiting either side no checks what ever . BUT it all depends on your timing when you get to the port or tunnel . cheyenne

I was there on Friday morning, got there and it took 1 1/2 hours to get through passport control, was last car onto my ferry

the train is defiantly faster & the trucks go a different way at the ticket office not like dover .cheyenne
At Dover the trucks use separate lanes as do the coaches, there just aren't enough French passport control booths then you go through UK Border control.

27 minutes this morning from grabbing the mirror hanger thing to eurotunnel train pulling away and they slotted me on a train 2 hrs earlier than the booked one with no extra charge !
Then 33 minutes later I was rolling inside the train for unloading !
All for £130 within a few pennies

hi. yes we know that's why we don't use the ferry anymore . the truck have there own booths to the left BUT if they start to back up they stop you getting to your booth even when your booth are free . cheyenne

If you live in the SW of England, consider Portsmouth to Caen, if you're heading to Portugal and Spain.
Short crossings and you arrive much further down France , usually milder weather, in winter.

We left Newhaven on time this morning sailing to Dieppe, no queue ,nice and clean on board, the full English breakfast was really tasty.
With over 55 years discount was very reasonable, deffo reccomend it.

its all about timing as we are retired & chose our off peak times as most people crossing have cars & they like to get to some where to sleep for the night especially with kids onboard & no facility's so late afternoon is best or night time after all 5/10 mins from tunnel /ferry there are over night stops .cheyenne https://www.campercontact.com/en/france/hauts-de-france/marck/70251/aire-camping-car-marck

Port of Dover saying average delay is 50 minutes today, but passengers dispute this, reporting waiting times in excess of 3 hours and ferries missed

Steve

Yes, I can't wait for the new biometric system to kick in next year. Even though they have been working on it for 7 years it will be carnage at Dover.
