Timing belt change, reputable garage

My 2016 SunLiving Ducati 130 is ready for a new timing belt. I live midway between Chesterfield and Mansfield and I’m looking for a reputable garage who can do the job.
Local Fiat dealer wants £1,150 for belt only change and £1,650 if I require a service as well.
Any recommendations please.
It has only done 18,500 miles so I would not change the water pump do you agree with this.

Our Burstner Ixeo [Ducato 130] had covered only 8767 miles when we bought it at 6 weeks short of 5 years old in late April 21. But I made the change of water pump and timing belt a condition of purchase. the timing belt change is, I believe, a 4 year change, and the water pump is sited 'next door' [think it's about £50 extra because it's only a couple of bolts].

I read elsewhere that low mileage is probably more harmful than high mileage, because components can seize up through lack of use, and, especially for timing belts, that is not healthy ...

Brunhilde has now covered 18192 miles and, all being well, will go for another 4000 miles or so round trip in late November

I just looked at that link and I'd coincidentally got a quote for a full service last week @£140 and quite a few local garages were cheaper so thanks for that.
 
If that's the Ford Puma engine, has it had the improved crankshaft pulley fitted?

I’ve done this job twice on my 2.3 130 and each time I have changed the water pump. It is driven by the cam belt and always subject to the side load put on the pulley. Not cheap I agree, but cheaper than having to replace one and re-disturb the cambelt. It’s why they’re called ‘stealers’

it pays to shop around. It would be worthwhile to spend a couple of days down here and my mechanic would sort it far cheaper and better.

I don't shop around for the cheapest price, especially for something as potentially expensive as a timing belt. I find a garage that I can trust and stick with them, knowing that I won' t have to worry about the quality/reliability. Having said that, I usually get an indicative price 3 weeks or so in advance from Dealer websites or similar, to establish what needs done and the cost and check that with my garage

Just taken Tig in for a full annual service this morning. She has covered 646 miles in the last 12 months ... That's the hidden cost of all these 'clear off in the M/Home' trips :rolleyes:

If you go to a proper local garage, the work will be done by trained, experienced mechanics. The vehicle isn't a rare, inusual one, so they will be familiar with the job.

Go to a main dealer and the work will probably be done by apprentices, with oversight of the service manager who is in the office.

You really don't get what you pay for at a main dealer.

The only exception is there there are very expensive special tools involved that only a main dealer will have. That won't be the case for this job.
 
Might be worth contacting Steve and Matt at Autoglide Garage Services in Bollington. They have experience with motorhomes and with at least one full-timer (Ducato base) needing to use his home while at the workshop, so possible to tie in with a trip if you wanted to. I used them for a wheel bearing replacement in July on my way up to Scotland.
 
If you are going into Europe enquire about getting it done in another country.
I had a service at a Fiat Professional garage in Holland and it was £300 less than in the UK.
The Fiat Professional garage in Lisbon, Portugal charged me €40 an hour for work six years ago but the time they took to get the bill was longer than the repair!
In UK try asking garages that specialise on vans and small trucks, our local van garage ( NOT a Fiat one, so no showroom etc to pay for ) is much cheaper than Fiat prices and does a lot of Ducato work. Six the week I had a MOT.

2007 fiat ducato 2287cc Cheyenne i have just been quoted £405 for cam belt and water pump change, £205 parts £200 labour liverpool

The bus doesn't visit the Recycling Centre [too high for the barrier...] and there is no pedestrian access permitted ... Tig is the car not the Van; the latter is getting a decent amount of use, 151 nights since early March and 6000 miles, and hoping to add another 4000 miles from late November
