So it's years since I've been down to the Smoke.

What would be the best tickets for getting round London anyone, Oyster Card or Travelcard?

Need to get from Victoria bus station to Sheen Saturday evening, Sunday relax day but may hop aboard tube/bus to get to Kew or similar, Monday morning get from Sheen to Harlow to collect van.

Ooh err..

Good luck Marie.
It's too dahn sarf for me. Take your bus pass and look at the Transport for London Journey planner, online.
Don't talk to any strangers down there... They'll not understand a word.

You mean Don't talk to Strangers Full Stop. As NO ONE in London talks to strangers!

(I used to talk to any random person when I lived there though :D )

You can use your contactless debit card instead of an oyster card.
something that might be worth being aware of ....
only 5 contactless payments allowed before you gave to use a chip and pin payment.
So if you are someone who tends to use contactless a fair bit, you could have used up your 'allowance' and the card won't work when you get to the barrier. And it would be a right pain if two of you and the allowance is used up after the first one goes in :)

Do you mean just London transport? Or in general? I've used contactless loads, and rarely have to put in the pin. It does happen, but definitely more than 5.

London doesn't actually take a payment when you tap in, but it'll work out what to bill you at the end of your days travelling around. There is no keypad to enter a pin at the barriers so I suspect you'll never get stopped.

I suppose the TfL system means it is a single payment and using the card each time is an authorisation?
I happened to look into this (contactless payments) a few days ago for some reason as it seemed to me that automatic payments without interaction is very insecure and if you lose your card you could loose a load of money (I had a Credit Card stolen years ago when the old card machine and slips were still in use - had hundreds of pounds spent on it, all just below the 'call for authorisation' threshold - Contactless makes the process even easier).
I read that apart from the £30 limit, there was a limit of 5 transactions between prompts for a PIN. Seemed like a good idea to me but I guess your experience would say that is not the case? And personally, that concerns me.

I don't think there is a "five contactless" limit, but using contactless on London transport wouldn't count anyway. They only charge you once a day - because of the daily cap, until the end of the day they won't know how much to charge
